Offshore Super Cats Race For The Silver Cup In 2008

This year the Detroit Yacht Club's O.J. Mulford Sliver Cup will
be awarded to the winner of the Offshore Super Cat Class. The Silver Cup is awarded annually by DYC for Automotive Powered Racing on the Detroit River. There will be three Offshore classes this year; they are the Unlimited Class, the Super Cat Class and the Cat Light Class. The Super Cats are in the larger of the automotive powered groups; they are 40 feet long and each carries twin 510 cubic inch, naturally-aspirated 850 hp engines that will have them achieving speeds of up to 140 mph on our Detroit River Course. The Detroit River Regatta Association has invited five of the top Super Cat boats to compete for our Silver Cup; they will be qualifying on both Saturday and early Sunday of Race weekend with a final heat for the Silver Cup prior to the Gold Cup final. The cup will be awarded by Commodore Krietsch along with Vice Commodore Minsterman and Rear Commodore Coltman at the awards ceremony near the Gar Wood Judges Stand following the last race of the day.
Be sure to watch for the Super Cats racing for our O.J.
Mulford Silver Cup on Gold Cup weekend. Also on this page
is an article written by Mike Dixon, a local renowned historian
and author who is also the Great Grandson of O.J. Mulford,
telling us more about our late, well known member O.J.
Mulford.
