AMF Making an IMPRESSION
US may touch UAE base
By Alaric Gomes, Staff Reporter Dubai: Hardly into its first week and the newly set-up World Professional Powerboat Association (WPPA) has drawn the attention of offshore drivers and boats from North America. "We are thrilled with the prospect of racing in this part of the world and having your boats come over to North America," John B. Haggin, owner of the AMF Offshore Racing Team, told Gulf News after attending the final round of the UIM Class One World Powerboat Championship. Haggin was accompanied by his driver and reigning world champion Scottie last weekend to take stock of how a Class One race is run and managed. "I am convinced that the sport needs to have an injection of enthusiasm and a new vision," Haggin said. Haggin is convinced that the new body intends to take the right steps for the good of the sport. The Offshore Super Series runs in Puerto Rico, Canada and the US, and he now wants to take his team a step higher by competing under the WPPA umbrella. "I think the formation of this new body is a fantastic move to ensure a solid unification of the sport." |
