You should call the OPA with there 50+ boats to come to OB. OB is a great site. You should make it the OPA worlds

I cant believe this :( :(

I love looking at OB pictures. It kicks a$$ and for the last several years, all teams made to OB and had wild race with these awesome waves!

What a great town, I know Gary and all involved will work on the site for the future.

It would make a great site for an OPA Worlds. I also believe it could be done for a lot less than $150,000.

$50.000 ,you can make work

TYPHOON 03-21-2009 09:38 AM

Mike with no safety and no purse and no staff and no insurance you can make it work for 50k. Sam Has been working on this event for years and they know the cost to put on a race.
I think it would be great if the OPA teams wanted to race with OSS in orange Beach. Why dont they???? Everyone is welcome to race with OSS at any race we have. This year should be an eye opener for our sport that if we dont work together at some events it could kill the sport.
Sam and staff thank you for the hard work you and all the volunteers are doing to try and keep this event alive.

Orange Beach is a fantastic site. I am sure it will be back. Smitty

gary nichols 03-21-2009 10:18 AM

I personally talked to Smitty and went to the CBV and got permission for the race using a 75g budget and moving the race to the weekend after labor day to try and save the race and have at least a two week gap between other circuits races and the Emerald Coast poker run trying to get a boat count as 17 boats doesn't cut it for Thunder in The Gulf. The fans were all saying "Where are Geico,Budweiser,Reliable,Byrider, and Nichols Offshore.Yes, the fans were let down and even with gallant efforts by OSS having heat races it just wasn't the same. After phone calls and emails back to OPA to confirm a date went unanswered I gave up.The enthusiasm of Sam Jackson and the rest of the powerbat ass. is still there and if anybody has a idea how to save the race we are all ears and can certainly put on a race in pretty short order as long as we dont disapoint our fans with boat count. Maybe because we already have two races that month signed sealed and delivered. Oh and funded.
