Default Oss Cares Hosts Special Olympic Athletes In Kentucky

LAKE CUMBERLAND, KY - OSS Cares, a charity designed to give back to the various communities of the race sites hosting the Offshore Super Series (OSS)-the only powerboat racing association to support its own charity-will extend its reach to the Special Olympics of Kentucky (SOKY) during this year's Lake Cumberland, KY race. On Friday, May 15, 12 Special Olympic athletes will have an opportunity to meet the teams and get a personal tour of the powerboats before race day.

"We have 12 very excited Special Olympic athletes who can't wait to meet the OSS teams," said Rodney Henry, head of the Cumberland area committee of SOKY. "It is great that OSS Cares enables people with special needs to play an active role in such high profile races by experiencing these events in a way that would be otherwise impossible."

This race season, OSS Cares has also partnered with Shriner's Hospital for Children, a unique international health care system providing specialty pediatric care and innovative research. ten patients from the Lexington branch and their families will also get to tour the boats and meet the racers on Saturday, May 16.

"We admire these two different groups for their strength and passion," said Maisy Page, Founder and Director of OSS Cares. "Being able to touch their lives at the Lake Cumberland race means a lot to the OSS teams and makes our trip to Kentucky much more worthwhile."

The behind the scenes tour that both the Special Olympics athletes and the Shriner's patients and families will receive not only allows them to see the boats but to hop into the driver's seat and become a team member for the weekend. In addition to climbing into the boats for a firsthand view of the cockpit, they will be V.I.P. guests of OSS-allowing them access to all of the weekend's events, including watching the race and attending the awards ceremonies.

OSS Cares represents the humanitarian hearts of the OSS Family and is a way of demonstrating the commitment OSS has to the communities visited during race season. OSS Cares supports a wide variety of causes that reflect the corevalues of the entire OSS Family in an effort to use the passion that the teams have for the sport to make a difference in the lives of the people who need it most.
