Factory Rules?

Hey Micklos,What is the scoop on Factory rules? The price on the lease program is only 1 part of the equation.
Lets forget about the lease for a min. and tell us what is in store for drives and gimbals.ITS,Bravo sportsmen lower and 5 blade props? You must not have the answers yet or you would have posted but how about some ideas of where we are know.Lets start with the givens. Are the following going to be leagal next year.

1) Vortex motors
2) 525 EFI motors
3) 500 EFI motors
4) 500 carb motors

5) ITS gimbal

6) 5 blade props

7) Sportsman lower Bravo

Is this all leagal with differant weight restrictions,I have heard so except the ITS gimbal.
Any input would be most helpful to the teams building new boats.

Randy:

(1)Leave your boat alone , it's the best all round F1 Boat out there! Quit worrying so much about the rules!
(2) Take a spelling course (Mikolos , legal , Vortec , different) hey these words all describe Mikolos - too funny!
(3) Quit pissing off Frank or I'm going to team up with him and show you how to run a F1 Boat!
(4) Send Louise her frying pan or your banned from our support trailer!

All in good fun Candy - BH

Randy,

Get out your checkbook. Let's see. A 525 - $30,000+-. 5 Blade Props - $1500 ea. Need 2. Gimbal... what do ya think, $4000. New lower $3500. A mear total of $40,000. Find a sucker for your old stuff...subtract $16,000. So now you have another $24,000 or so invested and if you runaway from the pack, you'll most likely end up with a weight penalty. You better be sandbagging. :)

Randy, if you dont know the rules by now ...you dont need to know them. stick with your machine. you got at least another year on it

TYPHOON 01-08-2003 07:22 PM

And if we run away with our 500EFI then will they lower the weight on the 525EFI?

There you go Randy, 350 lb to run a 525 or Hp3 in factory 1. Engines must be good for 2.5 mph gain. Where the heck would you mount another 350 lb ?

Here's the real kicker:

"All Factory Class boats manufactured after January 1, 2000 may meet minimum weight requirements with the addition of fixed or removable ballast materials as long as the ballast does not exceed a 3% of the minimum class boat weight for each boat length and engine configuration."

So if you weight 4600 w/o any ballast, 3% is about 140 lb yet you have to add 350 lb to run a 525 or HP3. Hum....

TYPHOON 01-17-2003 08:42 AM

Thats a good point on the 3%.They will have to change that in the rules. That was a rule that was never enforced anyway. To build a boat to 3% is very difficult to do even if you try really really hard.If they enforced it last year it would have eliminated just about everyone except you of course.;)

TYPHOON 01-17-2003 09:07 AM

The rules didnt say anything about 5 blade props.Or am I missing something.
Randy

Flashwave 01-17-2003 09:22 AM

This is true. We took great care not to exceed the 3% rule. You just never know when they are going to check.

Not a single mention on the 5 blade props. Don't think Merc is quite ready yet. When they are, I would expect a rule modification.

Gordo 01-17-2003 11:18 AM

Just curious...

I keep hearing about some kind of rule concerning 5 blade props.
What "rule" are y'all referring to, and where did you hear about it?

CigDaze 01-17-2003 01:58 PM

Is that the new Maximus props? There's an article in the latest Powerboat...
:)

TYPHOON 01-17-2003 03:20 PM

Gordo last year in Factory class we were not allowed to run 5 blade props. There were not enough in production for them to be used by all so they held off till this year. The new rules dont say anything on it if we can or cant.
Randy

Gordo 01-18-2003 08:39 PM

Gotcha

I knew that Factory class could not run the 5 blade props. I was thinking I heard some say the 5 blade may be required this year.
Actually, now that I think about it, why couldn't anyone run the old Mercury "High 5" props last year? there were a buttload of those out on the market and anyone could buy one.

TYPHOON 01-19-2003 09:50 AM

Gordo my guess is that they APBA didnt want to change the rules in the middle of the season and possable give some team a advantage. It was such a great season with everyone being so equal.I'm concerened what this season will do for Factory racings future.I hope it will inprove it but lets see.
