Peconic 08-26-2003 06:01 AM

Come on, Boyz, he needs help.

No new ideas, but known to work:

- A day or 2 with Julie & Matt
- A day or 2 at Lake X
- A day or 2 with that Australian guy

mrv8outboard 08-26-2003 07:27 AM

sand the running surface of the bottom.don't be shy. good for 1-3 mph on the adverage. give me the numbers so i can crunch them. rpm @ wot / prop pitch / gaer ratio. that will help me help you.

ScottB 08-26-2003 07:29 AM

take out the decimal points and thats what we need

kitten 08-26-2003 08:31 AM

Go back to an XR drive, claim Gino's prop . Come to the race.

xtremeracingf1 08-26-2003 12:19 PM

Randy,

Have you checked your Xdim. and do you have room to move it up or down?
Have you checked the bottom to make sure its straight?
Have you check to see where your CG is?
Do you know what your slip factor is at the prop?
What size prop are you running and at what RPMs,is it a 4 blade or a 5 blade?
Bravo prop or a Hydromotive?

We have done alot of testing with the sport master drive and it is not always fast,we have tested on some boats and run 2-3 MPH slower. We also found that they dont like to run at a high Xdim. and usally work best between 85-90 MPH.Thats why they work so well on F-2 boats and not on F-1s.
If we do the math we can tell if the problem is the boat or the prop and aleast know where to start...Good luck!

Give me a call when you are free - I have an Idea, but am not sure of all the rules in F1.

audacity 08-26-2003 01:31 PM

MD...as you know the last 1-3 is VERY hard to get!...no one's going to give ya the answers that easy either!...

"Thats why they work so well on F-2 "..they do???

anyway randy has to use the sport master,,,he has a 525...and his x is limited to 3 1/4.

Peconic 08-26-2003 01:38 PM

On behalf of Randy:

X-dim: Right up there. Further up, and there would be hell to pay. (I have the same boat with the same engine. On mine, X 1" higher plus 7" setback due to ITS: No change.)

Bottom: You bet it's straight. It's a Kryptonite. (And we checked.)

CG: They had it on a sling, at least prior to Milwaukee.

Slip factor: Dunno, but that would be straightforward to calculate. Kirk?

Prop: I believe they ran the 27" 5 blade Hydromotive, labbed by T-Up. I have same and it hits the rev limiter at around 5350.

I have a 29 Hydro on order. Most likely it will be good for 0.8 mph (or more) in calm water.

Apart from a 29 Hydro 5 blade, all the obvious routes have already been considered, I believe. Kirk Rogers, owner of Kryptonite and my (much) better half on P4-99, does prop calculations as his pasttime.

The sandpaper route (unless it's 80grit or coarser) may rise the ire of the judges.

xtremeracingf1 08-26-2003 02:18 PM

I dont know how fast he is running but the math works out to be 80.25 MPH if he is spinning a 27 at 5350 RPM.
He should try a 30 4blade Hydromotive lab,he should have no problem turning either a 28 or a 29 and I'm sure he will have a much better results then the 5 blade.

Randy,

You might want to bring it to LakeX that might be the quickest and easiest way to see what you really have. Unfortunately it just takes time,I took almost 2 yrs. to get where we are .5 mph at a time.
Let me know and I'll make a few calls for you and get it setup.

Peconic 08-26-2003 03:16 PM

Frank: It actually works out for some miles more, remember, it's the 5blader, and the Hydro pitch is measured differently than the Bravo pitch. I yield to Randy for exact nums.

Lake X: I've been saying that for quite some time.

4blade: He has a 4blade Hydro, it was the one that was temporarily incarcerated by APBA in Savannah. I don't remember the pitch.

Candy
I think Bruce may have said it best. Get an Activator. Since Activator was intrduced to Factory-1 APBA the second race of the 2001 Season the results are something like this. Activator-13 wins Warlock-4 wins, Kryptonite 2 wins, Phantom1 win, Lavey 1 win(not really) Just givin you more to think about Candy. I hope you find the speed and make things competitive again. Good luck as always. These #'s are from thinking back over the last few years, I may be off 1 here or there.

Your best Buddy B.J.

MANITIE 08-26-2003 05:26 PM

Priarie Dog,
I told Glenn I have a 3 props 2 that are brand new and lab finished if you want to try them. I don't know what speed you ran in Sarasota but the fastest are GPS read was 80.4 MPH, I only seen 80 a couple of times but we where running 76 to 77 mph in most of the turns, its not the accelertion coming out of the turn because Mark had the throttle wide open in most of the turns we even seen 78 in some of the turns, that boat just hugs the turns great and if you let it eat and carrie the speed coming out of the turns you loose just a little speed.
Go luck, and see you at the next race.I have a fast Fountain for sale.
Gino

Congradulations on your soon to be official National Championship, you guys are smokin right now and I don't see anybody beating you guys anytime soon. Keep kickin ass!

MANITIE 08-26-2003 06:26 PM

Thanks BJ,
You need to be back out here....I think I can talk Lute into running you and him in my Fountain....It's the best, I'v seen some of the nice's clouds in the sky while Lute was racing with me... you also get a great view of the race, I have some good conections with the AFLAC Rep.

BJM 08-26-2003 06:35 PM

Gino

Thanks for the more than generous offer of racing your Fountain, you really are too kind. Unfortunately I'm going to pass on the offer, I enjoy LIVING too much.

TYPHOON 08-26-2003 07:37 PM

We have done all the above except Glenn going on a diet. I am as lean as a body builder can be. ( body by Budweiser that is) We must be missing just a little something and really like all the ideas you have. The only thing left is better balance and more prop work. Hello Matt and Julie:eek:
MD

RADIOACTIVE 08-26-2003 08:12 PM

RANDY TAKE THE BEER COOLER OUT OF THE BOAT BEFORE YOU RACE. I TOLD YOU THAT WILL SLOW YOU DOWN.

KEVIN

RADIOACTIVE 08-26-2003 08:13 PM

OR MAYBE YOU SHOULD SWITCH TO LIGHT BEER

KEVIN

TYPHOON 08-26-2003 08:20 PM

But what would we use for balest?

F1-00 Racing 08-26-2003 08:22 PM

I will give Randy credit. @ the Pt race he was drinkin Coor's Light

mrv8outboard 08-26-2003 08:24 PM

what's the gear ratio???

Hauling Trash 08-26-2003 08:36 PM

Randy

You got to sand the bottom of that boat .you should pick up 2-3 mph.

Mike

Peconic 08-26-2003 11:47 PM

The beer ratio is approx 3 beers / shot. It used to be 1 beer / shot, but that was too fast.

MANITIE 08-27-2003 07:54 PM

Prarie Dog,
We use our peeee as balest during the race......I don't mind giving you our main secret, and it stinks so bad up front the inspectors won't go up there after the race.....I still don't know why!!!

BJ,
I'm hurt that you turned down my Fountain, I'm on a referal program with my back surgeon, I get a "bird dog" fee from him........damm another name for Prarie Dog!! This is so easy.

xtremeracingf1 08-27-2003 08:24 PM

Gino,

Come on Gino it not that bad :::)))
