I knew it was going to be good but didnt know just how good. Guys if if you want to step up or down in a class you should look into this. The bang for the buck is increadable. Its more money than the F1 we came from but has safty with speed. This class should take off in a big way. We may not have biggest budget or boat out there but have the best friend in our class. Do the math and if your real good you might be able to run this class for free with a little help.

maybe you could help answer this for me.

OSS Vee Lite was a blast... Randy's right (for once) our class is by far the most bang for your buck. Speed, safety, and GREAT friends. We at Team IMCO really had an unbelievable time in Biloxi, MS. And might I add that the Governor Hailey Barber told me personally that he REALLY wants OSS and all of us back. Anyone one out there that is interested in OSS Vee Lite call me or anybody in our class and we would love to have you come race with us.

Thanks to everyone who came out and I am looking forward to seeing you all again in St. Pete.

Ben

Ben@SRP 04-27-2004 05:44 PM

Oh sorry... 97BossHammer,
RonP was close on his estimate of $200K. I'd say you could find a boat for 50-75K used and in need of re-rigging.

Ben

ScottB 04-27-2004 05:56 PM

200k Bang for the Buck? Maybe for the OSS Elitists
I'll stick with P Class, Race/ Pleasure. Thats bang for the buck.

Peconic 04-27-2004 06:22 PM

A new SVL boat from Phantom or Extreme, fully rigged, goes for approx $120,000 - that's more or less the same price as a new F1 or P4 boat with equal engine.

A new SVL hull, unrigged, goes for around 50,000

Used SVL boats did cost between $30,000 and $60,000 while they were avaible. Now, the market is wiped clean.

All in all, you can't beat the SVLs for bang for the buck and safety.

Randy and I have 2 2003 Kryptonite F1 boats and 1 1998 Kryptonite F1 boat. Will trade for SVL anytime.

ScottB 04-27-2004 06:29 PM

In your world Maybe, but I can buy a Brand new Pantera, Activator, Joker, etc for Well below 100 grand and race F1 or build an engine and have the same set up for less than 80G and race P4.

Wardey 04-27-2004 06:46 PM

....and I just happen to have a 29' Kevlar/Carbon Fiber Ventilated step hull ready for a deck !!!!!:D :D :D Dave

BRUCE SEROFF 04-27-2004 06:46 PM

I think your race expenses are goin to be similar, whether you race F-1 or SVL. SVL in OSS may cost a bit more to enter, but there is some money to be made if you finish top three in SVL.

Wether you buy used or brand new, the final product will end up around the same cost if re rigging is neccessary.

I do agree that a F-1 boat, brand new, will cost about 100k maybe more, once your done setting it up to be competitive.

Unfortunately, F class is dying or maybe even dead and SVL is an awesome class to step into.

I know that would be my next step.

So, for now, its P class

lukiepal 04-27-2004 07:13 PM

I agree with Scott B, unless you can afford two boats the SVL limits you to a race boat only, I like P-Class RACE/PLEASURE

Ben@SRP 04-27-2004 08:33 PM

ScottB,
Don't be sooooo mad... You still owe me a beer and I plan to collect, and I don't care if you are "mad" at me...

Still your friend, Ben (hey... that rhymes)

F1-00 Racing 04-27-2004 08:35 PM

Randy,

Is it true there was only 4 boats in SVL class in Biloxi? I thought OSS was only run a class if they had 5 boats or more? Boat looks great good luck this year and be safe. We'll see you in Key West...

ScottB 04-27-2004 08:51 PM

I'm not mad at you Ben. I will make good on that beer.
I really haven't had much to say lately. I am just gonna do my thing with my little boat this year and have fun.
Every once in a while I will throw in my .02. I am just a little ticked because I loved to race and be at the site with 70-100 boats because the atmosphere was electric and the excitement non stop. From the looks of things, it doesn't matter where we race, those days are gone at least for now.
Now I am hoping for 40 boats. Oh well maybe Key West will have at least 60. Don't you remember how awesome Savannah, St Pete, etc last year, everywhere you looked in the Hotel, the streets, the Pits, there were uniforms and people talking racing. Thats why I am pissed. I am done with the blame game, WE ALL SUCK;) for letting this happen

Well said Scott...

I've always kept an eye on SVL...It's a great class, good sized boats, reasonable costs, fast competitive racing and safety with a lid. It's a hot class. Have fun with it.

Good post, Scott. :)

A canopy can make all the difference...

TYPHOON 04-28-2004 08:21 AM

Scott, Dont get me wrong. 100k for a boat is still stupid money for the average Joe like us. Im saying only if you can afford to do it would it be a great bang for the buck. Anyone that has been to my house says Im nuts. I have a nice 3 bedroom home but the money I have in my boats is more than my house. Its just how much I love racing boats.
MD:D

BRUCE SEROFF 04-28-2004 08:29 AM

Amen Randy...and If I didnt dump all that money into my boat, I would have a 10 bedroom mansion on top of a mountain:( :( :(

audacity 04-28-2004 08:33 AM

man can't believe how fast that boat is with all that hook in it!!!!!!

audacity 04-28-2004 08:34 AM

a very wise man must have help out.:D

I came close to buying the now Typhoon boat years ago when Rick had it for sale without the number 5 drive and the costly Stainless Marine set up. However when I sat inside the boat I knew it would not work for me because I felt claustrophobic inside the canopy. So for you guys that have never been inside one do so before you invest in one, I wish I didnt have that problem because I saw that boat race with Rick and Rob from Blue Thunder many times and most of the time they had the checkered flag. That boat was done unlike any other boat in his class at that time. If it was in Ricks hands it had to be a proven boat. I`m sure Rick has shown video clips of the 2000 Worlds in Key West to all his potential buyers if not see it and you will see how Rick and Rob raced that boat fearless:D .

TYPHOON 04-28-2004 09:08 AM

Thats halph the fun over coming your fears. It is differant but when the flag goes green it all goes away.

I know Randy, I just didnt feel that way at the time and for that atleast you guys now race a true winner.

Albert

TYPHOON 04-28-2004 09:35 AM

As for there only being 4 boats at the race. At the start of OSS they wanted at least 5 boats per class to start a class. SVL has more than the 5 teams that said they would race OSS. Being it was the first race some teams were not ready but are still comitted to race with OSS and where ever else they want. They will be in St. Pete for the next OSS event.

You're not the first to have a problem with a canopy, there have been several others. Some even cut their canopies down to help eliminate that feeling. Others are ok in the canopy but won't wear the mask for full time air due to the claustrophobic feeling.
I was on the other side, sitting inside a canopy with full time air almost gave me the feeling of invincability. I felt that I was protected from the world and I didn't have to worry about being trapped and drowning since we had enough air for 2 hours under water. Drop the visor on the helmet and Darth Vader look out.

You need to feel comfortable in the boat but you really need to take a canopy boat for a ride. Most of those feelings you have will go away. Randy is right, although I think you just need to push the sticks forward.

TYPHOON 05-02-2004 11:19 AM

Any word if Volocity,Fountain or Lavy Craft are coming out with a SVL?
MD:confused:

Flashwave 05-02-2004 01:44 PM

Randy,

SVL is a fun race boat. I'm not sure it sells pleasure boats. There's a big Laveycraft following out here. The 2750 is very popular and most of the guys that buy/own them relate to the race boat. It's just like theirs. Not sure a lid would have the same effect. In fact a true manufactures class is opening up for pleasure boat owners with a 496HO who want to race. This is were four of the manufactures are going to put their money as it relates to selling boats and racing.
