Pickwick, Tenn. (May 1, 2006) – Next weekend marks the first official race of the Offshore
Super Series’ (OSS) 2006 season as teams compete for that coveted first place spot in the
Pickwick Offshore Challenge. Dave Scott’s Budweiser Select Offshore Team will be debuting a
new Extreme boat, while they vie for the first win of the OSS season and second of the year.
Owner/Driver Dave Scott is aware of the heavy competition that will be present in Pickwick,
while his biggest concern is making sure the new 44-foot MTI Super Cat is race ready.
“We’ve got our work cut out for us,” Scott said. “There is going to be some serious competition
in Pickwick and the concern is that we are coming in with a new boat. We don’t have any seat
time in the new boat yet, so Johnny and I will have to get it together quickly. I have to learn my
part (in the new boat), Johnny has to learn his and then we have to learn our parts together.
“My biggest concern for Pickwick is that we’ll still be learning those parts during the race,” Scott
continued. “It’s going to be a challenge. Obviously, we don’t want to do anything that will get
us into trouble, but we want to be competitive. Hopefully we’ll get the boat finished and down to
Pickwick in time to at least get a day of testing in it before race day.”
Johnny Tomlinson, throttleman for the Budweiser Select Team, agrees with Scott and realizes
Pickwick will be a test of wills.
“This weekend in Pickwick will definitely be a learning experience with this new boat,”
Tomlinson explained. “Pickwick is going to be a different race – different from what anyone has
seen in the past few years. There are going to be four or five boats that can probably run at
speeds in excess of 170 mph. It’s definitely going to be an extreme ballgame.”
Not only will competition be fierce in Pickwick, but the racecourse could cause teams headaches
as well. Scott knows the course will prove challenging.
“It’s a very fast racecourse,” Scott said. “There is a two-mile straightaway that will be just like a
drag race. They’ve also added a turn similar to the course in Corpus Christi, Texas last year – so
there will have to be a lot of driver input coming out of the new turn and down the back half.”

As always, testing is an important aspect of any race weekend. However, with the addition of the
new Extreme Super Cat, the Budweiser Select Team will rely heavily on getting in as much
practice time as possible before race day.
“Everything about this boat, even though it’s similar to what we’ve run in the past, is going to feel
different,” Tomlinson said. “We have to get comfortable with how it feels before we can start
changing things around. It’s a learning curve and it can take two or three races to get familiar
with how the boat is going to respond to the changes made to it. It’s definitely going to be a
challenge in Pickwick, but we’re looking forward to it.”
Race action begins at 11:00 am, Sunday, May 5 on Pickwick Lake. Race village and the wet pits
are located at Pickwick Landing State Resort.
