Default Motley Crew grabs Victory at OSS Pickwick Challenge

FOND DU LAC, Wis., May 10, 2007 – Team Motley Crew had a rough start to the season, but they came back with a vengeance at the Offshore Super Series Pickwick Challenge, May 6 on Pickwick Lake, Tenn., to grab their first win of the season.

Brothers Scott Roman, driver, and Ron Roman, throttleman, won the ultra-competitive Cat Lite class at Pickwick in their 368 Skater hull, powered by twin Mercury Racing 525 EFI engines and dry-sump Six drives. The brothers took the lead in their pirate-themed boat in the first turn and never relinquished it, eventually finishing 14 seconds ahead of Popeye’s Famous Chicken. The Romans averaged 106.09 mph to win the event. They have dominated the Pickwick OSS event since its inception, winning their class there each of the last three years. Team PropStop.net and Peppers Racing rounded out 3-4. All were powered by twin Mercury Racing 525 EFI engine packages.

For the third race in a row WHM Motorsports started out in front, but once again came up short of a victory. Midway through the 18-lap race, Team Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Biloxi charged to the lead and held on for its second victory of the season.

Team Hard Rock driver Steve Page and throttleman Joey Gratton, averaged 116.62 mph in their Mercury Racing 850 SCi powered Skater hull, a mile an hour faster than WHM. WHM owner/driver Billy Mauff and throttleman Jay Muller realized after the race their boat had been taking on water as the race progressed – explaining why they didn’t gain speed as fuel was consumed.

Team CRC rounded out the field, competing gamely in their new MTI hull.. Owner/driver Mike DeFrees and throttleman Jeff Harris got caught in traffic early, and suffered a one-lap penalty for dislodging a buoy. All Cat 850 SC boats were powered by twin Mercury Racing 850 SCi engines and Six Drives. The Mercury Racing 850 SCi consumer performance sterndrive engine package has gained respect from competitors and fans alike running and completing three races without an issue.

Notes:
In OSS Vee Lite, the Popeye’s entry dealt Team Screaming Eagle its first loss of the season. Amazingly, it was the first time owner/throttleman George Auriemma Jr. and driver Brandon Willie have ever teamed up. They finished four seconds ahead of Screaming Eagle’s Alan Campbell and Matt Jones. Each boat in the Vee Lite field was powered by a single Mercury Racing 525 EFI.

Team Bermuda Berrycuda took the checked flag in OSS Cat Outboard. Its driver Chris Marshall and throttleman Dennis Berry finished well ahead of Team CarCredit123.com to avenge Berrycuda’s loss to CarCredit123.com in Greer’s Ferry. Each boat was propelled by a pair of Mercury Racing 2.5 outboards.

In OSS Vee, driver Brett Furshman and throttleman Reggie Fountain III ran unopposed and averaged 96.81 mph. The team’s Miccosukee Indian Gaming Fountain is equipped with two Mercury Racing 525s and Six Drives.

Round four of the 2007 Offshore Super Series is the Freedom America Celebration & Shoot Out, July 6-8 in Jacksonville, Fla.
