Konrad Releases FOY Inspection Results

Hudson, Wis. -- After 4 years of running the same set of drives on the race, poker run and pleasure cruise tour, the P4-33 Konrad / Fountain of Youth race boat has recently gone through an inspection to evaluate gearset wear of their Konrad 540 PRS sterndrives.

Early in its racing career, the Fountain of Youth experienced frequent and severe drive failures with the MERCRUISER TRS drive systems. In June of 2004, Konrad Marine installed the 540 Performance Replacement System (PRS), retrofitting the P4-33 boat with a pair of Konrad 540 drives, transom assemblies and trim cylinders.

Over the course of the next four seasons, the Konrad / Fountain of Youth competed in 16 sanctioned racing events, participated in 9 poker runs and enjoyed numerous hours pleasure cruising on Lake Erie and Lake Cumberland. This was all completed with the same set of stern drives, without a single drive failure! "The reliability and the capability to take the constant abuse that the race and poker run circuits dish out is incredible. During its racing career, the Konrad / Fountain of Youth has scored 6 checkered flags, wrapping up the 2006 season with a 2nd place finish at the Offshore World Championships in Key West, FL.

About the P4-33 Konrad / Fountain of Youth: The boat is a 33' Fountain 10-Meter Executioner, racing in 400 Class with the OPA Racing Organization, and in P4 Class with APBA/Super Boat International. It is powered by a pair of 600+ hp engines, driving Konrad 540 PRS sterndrives. Top speeds for the class is 85mph. The Konrad Fountain of Youth is driven by Bob Morrison from Taylor, Michigan, throttled by team owner, Brian Bunch from Gibraltar, Michigan, and supported by Crew Chief Dave Stemen from Gibraltar, Michigan.

The inspection of the 540 sterndrives on the Fountain of Youth took place at Konrad Marine Inc. and began with disassembling the lower units, followed by the upper units. Konrad thoroughly examined the gears and shafts of the drives and discovered these parts were in excellent condition (as shown in photos 2 and 3), showing minimal wear. This drive inspection of the Fountain of Youth shows the durability, dependability, and performance of the Konrad sterndrives on and off of the race course.
