Countdown To The Don Aronow Offshore Showdown

The parameters of Legendary Open Offshore Racing are on the verge of being re-defined. The FINAL COUNTDOWN has begun with less than three-weeks remaining until the DON ARONOW MEMORIAL OCEAN POWERBOAT RACE. Whether rain or shine, the highly anticipated aquatic showdown from Sunny Isles Beach direct to Bimini and back begins at 12:00pm on Friday June 20th.

It all comes down to “Survival of the FITTEST and FASTEST” as Classic Cougar Cats and Modern Mystics slash through the Gulfstream swells, notorious for lacking patterns and predictability.

Fans are cordially invited to come out and experience history in the making with this tribute to Thunderboat Alley founder and Speedboat King Don Aronow. Don’t miss your chance to see his son Michael Aronow sign all the winners’ checkered flags post-race.

The non-profit event to benefit charity is being produced by the Historic Offshore Boat Race Association (HORBA) Ocean Racing LLC, under the guidance of Charlie McCarthy, Larry Goldman of Xtremepowerboats.com and Brad Schoenwald of Tres Martin Performance School.

Racing Legends are also coming out to play throughout the weekend providing fans multiple opportunities to snap pictures and get autographs. A Friday evening boat parade from Haulover to Sunny Isles Beach heats up the night followed by a barbeque and blues block party back at Haulover Park. This is the spot being converted into the temporary home of the HOBRA Historic Race Village and will be open free of charge to the public throughout the powerboat mega weekend.

On Saturday, the Florida Powerboat Club teams up with event producers for the Thunderboat Run that will depart to a secret South Florida Hot-spot. Non-racing performance boaters are welcome to join the rally but will incur a registration fee of $300.

Following Saturday’s fun run, a Legends-Reunion celebration and awards ceremony with over 60 iconic old-school racers including Odell Lewis, Richie Powers and Sammy James takes place at Gulfstream Racing Park and Casino. A silent auction to raise funds for selected charities will round out the evening agenda. Fans are welcome to attend all events, though a small fee will be asked in order to benefit the charities.

Also on-board during this mammoth Sunny Isles Beach invasion of horsepower is the Offshore Super Series. On Saturday boating enthusiasts will enjoy viewing OSS race boat testing and timed trials. Completing the weekend will be Sunday’s powerful, action-packed OSS race and awards presentation.

Currently sponsorship packages are still available for this explosive powerboat mega weekend. Further information in relation to race details and sponsorship opportunities is available by contacting Larry Goldman at 305-947-3278, Charlie McCarthy at 401-258-4852 or Brad Schoenwald at 954-560-9080 or by visiting www.historicraceboats.com
