MYSTIC Powerboats announces the debut of the famed Miss Geico MYSTIC C5000-R
DeLand, Florida, August 3, 2009 ... MYSTIC Powerboats announces the debut of the famed Miss Geico MYSTIC C5000-R to Geico's prestigious offshore racing program. The shores Lake Michigan at Michigan City, Indiana will showcase the historic revival of first MYSTIC C5000-R and the fastest offshore turbine in the world, to the Turbine Class in SBI/APBA. In the words of Team Owner and driver, John Haggin in a recent Channel 12 Television interview, "...It's just euphoric, it's just like you close your eyes and just like you're almost in a dream... when you wake up you are in the fastest boat in the world...the fastest Offshore Race Boat in the world..." (YouTube of Miss Geico's July Test) Throttleman Scott Begovich stated in another Channel 12 interview that John Haggin "...gives us the opportunity to buy the Best of the Best..." as he referred to his Miss Geico Turbine Powered MYSTIC Powerboat.
The recent addition of two new entries in the Offshore Turbine Extreme category, JBS (www.jbsracing.com) and Aqua Mania (www.g3racing.com) has put new found pressure on the Geico offshore team.(www.MissGeicoRacing.com) A loss in Biloxi AL to JBS and in Sunny Isles Beach FL to Aqua Mania considering the fact that both of these boats are MYSTICs, made it clear Geico would have to speed up the race prep on their MYSTIC to even have a chance to return to their dominance in the prestigious turbine powered class.
"This left only one avenue for the Geico Team" states John Cosker, President, CEO and Owner of MYSTIC Powerboats, (www.MYSTICpowerboats.com) "...the debut of the first Mystic C5000-R which is the fastest cat in the world by John Haggin will totally even up the playing field...in a big way!" Both of these boats are capable of 200+ MPH speeds. The Miss Geico hull holds the current and unchallenged Top Speed Record of 209 MPH at the World Famous Lake of the Ozarks Shoot Out in it's former Miss Longlite trim. "It's a very fast boat"...says Cosker who ran throttles at that run. "What's amazing is that we had more (speed) left" ... "this duel between these two World Class MYSTIC's is going to be amazing to watch."
Both the Geico and Aqua-mania MYSTIC use the T-53 Turbines found in Cobra attack helicopters but they are pumped to over 1,800 HP each. The offshore race specked hulls are both nearly identical. Only the drivers, throttlemen and engine builders are different. The T-53's in Aqua-mania are prepared by John Arruda of Turbine Marine and Miss Geico will be hosting turbine engines by Whispering Turbines of Hamilton Montana.
"We should see some great racing here in Michigan City this weekend. Competition in the Turbine class is bound to heat up as (these) two powerful superboats, manufactured by Mystic Powerboats, will go after each other looking for that checkered flag.", stated John Carbonell President Super Boat International.
The battle between Miss Geico and Aqua-mania competing in the Superboat International Offshore Racing Series will be broadcast on the CBS Sports Spectacular Television Series beginning October 2009 . Producer John Potts, of American Powerboat Television (www.AmericanPowerboat.tv) states, "This is the kind of extreme action that elevates recognition of the sport of offshore racing and builds audience base. Covering the close battles between these two boats at 200+ mph will make for GREAT television..."
Currently Miss Geico trails Aqua-mania by 450 points in the SBI national standings. "This could become a tie if Aqua-mania would fail to start and Miss Geico wins", states Cosker; "But, that's not likely." With half the season complete, 450 points will be hard to make up...but in Turbine powered Cat racing, anything is possible. With Geico's switch to MYSTIC Powerboats for the Geico Racing team, the top three points contenders in the Turbine Class are MYSTIC's.
