Default Team Amsoil Offshore Racing #77 – An Unstoppable Force

The AMSOIL Offshore Racing Team was created by owner Bob Teague, throttleman (Valencia, CA), and Paul Whittier, driver (Yarrow Point, WA). Both Teague and Whittier are mainstays in the boat racing scene, each with several national and world championship titles under their belts in several different categories of racing. Teague, owner of Teague Custom Marine in Valencia, CA, has completed over 900 races during his career. However, with the establishment of Team AMSOIL, it was the first time that the two long-time friends would be in the same boat instead of in competing boats on the race course. The addition of AMSOIL Products Inc. from Superior, Wisconsin as the title sponsor of the Team would prove to be an unstoppable driving force.

The sleek silver Skater 368 boat debuted in the middle of the 2007 season and has been going strong ever since. Team AMSOIL ran the same pair of Mercury 525EFI Racing engines for each entire season with no failures or rebuilds. The VISSM Mercury drives were also run for two seasons without requiring any rebuilds. The reliability of the drive trains in this severe environment is directly related to the use of AMSOIL Dominator 15W-50 engine oil and the MCF transmission oil used in the stern drives. All entries in the Cat Lite class race the same stock Mercury engines, which makes the other adjustments for each race that much more crucial. Team AMSOIL is known for extensive testing on days prior to racing in order to assess the best possible drive and propeller pitch combinations for the sea conditions.

Team AMSOIL has boldly competed in events across many race sanctioning organizations, including Offshore Super Series (OSS), OPA, and Super Boat International (SBI). This has created an extremely full and diversified racing schedule for the Team.

Team AMSOIL captured virtually every title possible in the Cat Lite Class in 2008 during its sophomore racing season. The Team was the 2008 OPA Cat Lite High Points Champion, OSS National and High Points Cat Lite Champion, Cat Lite Triple Crown Winner, and SBI Super Cat World Champion. Team AMSOIL also captured the POPRA World Kilo Record in its class with an official average speed of 131.981MPH in December 2008 at the Salton Sea in the Southern California Desert.

The AMSOIL Offshore Racing Team set the Official Endurance Record sanctioned by OSS in 2008 in the Cat Lite Class from Miami, Florida to Bimini, Bahamas and back. This year, the team returned with a mission of defending and beating its own record in the 106 mile long race. On Friday, June 12th, 2009, Team AMSOIL #77 did just that by running the endurance event in 59 minutes and 40 seconds, which was a little over 5 minutes faster than last year’s record. The official average speed of the Team was recorded at 106.8174 MPH.

Capping off a near perfect winning season for 2009, Team AMSOIL Offshore won a second consecutive SBI World Championship Title at the season finale in Key West, Florida. Team AMSOIL Offshore also won the 2009 Super Boat International, Offshore Super Series, and OPA National Championship Titles and the second consecutive Triple Crown. Team AMSOIL Offshore finished in first place in all but one race that was entered during the 2009 season.

The following are a list of Team AMSOIL’s victories for the 2009 season:

The Team AMSOIL Skater is slated to have maintenance and upgrades performed over the winter including rebuilding the engines, and replacing the canopy glass. All systems are being checked so Team AMSOIL can dominate again in 2010. AMSOIL’s great sponsorship package, dedicated racing department team and superior lubricants all make it possible for Team AMSOIL Offshore Racing to achieve success!

This story is scheduled to appear in Santa Clarita Valley, CA’s local newspaper, The Signal, as well as Superior, Wisconsin’s The Superior Telegram later this month.

See you at the races!
