Default Team Amsoil Offshore Takes the Checkered Flag on Two Consecutive Weekends in Michigan

Team AMSOIL Offshore raced unopposed in Harrison Township, MI in Lake Saint Clair on July 17th and 18th. This was the 3rd race in the OPA Geico Series. Lake Saint Clair waters were rougher than usual providing a great show for the fans at the Beacon Cove Marina grandstands. This race proved to also be a good testing opportunity for Team AMSOIL Offshore to prepare for the always hotly contested Saint Clair, MI race on the following weekend.

The annual Saint Clair River Offshore Race, held this year on July 23rd through 26th, drew huge crowds from hundreds of miles around. Team AMSOIL Offshore set up an impressive pit display with AMSOIL dealers on hand to promote the product. Fans were able to pick up AMSOIL Offshore race apparel and autographed “hero” cards. Bob Teague and Paul Whittier participated in the advertised autograph signing event held on Saturday evening where thousands of fans were able to meet and greet the racers.

This year, the course was shortened to approximately 4 miles per lap to improve spectator viewing. Traditionally, the Saint Clair course was about 7 miles per lap on the Saint Clair River. The new course layout required Team AMSOIL to test extensively on Saturday to create a winning combination of gear ratio, propeller selection, and boat balance. In all, Team AMSOIL logged over 150 miles testing and timing laps.

The conditions on race day were nearly the same as Saturday with a little stronger wind from the north. Team AMSOIL was assigned lane number two with Team Phoenixparts.com on the pole and Team Infinity in lane three. The rules require that all boats maintain their lanes through the first turn after the start. Team AMSOIL ran on the outside of the very fast Team Phoenixparts.com 388 Skater through turns 1 and 2, and down the back straightaway. On the first lap going into turns 3 and 4 at the south end of the course, Bob Teague and Paul Whittier anticipated that Team Phoenixparts.com would push Team AMSOIL on a wide line at the turn. When the 388 boat did so, leaving an inside lane, Team AMSOIL pulled back, dove to the turn pin and passed the 388 boat on the inside. From that point, Team AMSOIL continued to steadily increase the lead over Team Phoenixparts.com boat for the remaining 15 laps. Also on the race course at the same time were the slower Super Vee Light and Super Vee boats which made for challenging traffic conditions on the course.

At the end of the race, Team AMSOIL finished about 30 seconds in front of Team Phoenixparts.com and about 2 minutes ahead of the Infinity Skater team from Norway.

As a result of the wins at Harrison Township and Saint Clair, Team AMSOIL is in a dominant first place overall high points position in the OPA Geico Series, having won four out of four races.
