OPA Algonac Racers - please read
Hello Racers and Race Fans,
Its time to get ready for the first race of the season in Algonac Michigan on June 3 - 4. That's only six weeks from now so, git er dun and git to Algonac. This is a city rich in racing history as the infamous Gar Wood started racing in these waters three quarters of a century ago. Prepare to be publicized in Algonac The race committee is rolling out the red carpet for the OPA teams and would like to feature each of the teams in their race program. If you'd like to be featured, please send an email containing your boat name, number, team names, hometown, prior accomplishments and photos of the boat and team. Also list your sponsors, type of boat, engine builder and horsepower. Make it interesting for the fans. Send to: Beth Engel [email protected]. Beth can also help you out with advertising space in their race program. This is a great way to promote your sponsor and your team for a very low price. Please help to support their efforts, its not everyday someone take the time and effort to make a great race program. Prepare to get wet in Algonac On Saturday in Algonac, everyone is going for a swim. As per the OPA rulebook and our insurance policy, all OPA racers must get wet. Open cockpit teams will do a swim test while canopy teams will go for a ride in the dunker. This training is well worth the effort, so get there early on Saturday. Cold and wet, helmets and jackets will be supplied. More info will be emailed to you, as the race date gets closer. Prepare to be examined before Algonac OPA is serious about your safety and so is our insurance provider. As per the OPA rulebook all riding crewmembers will need to present a certificate that they passed a FAA- CLD physical. This has been in the rulebook for years and never enforced. This year, it will be enforced. You can find an FAA certified doctor at this link. http://flightphysical.com/search/searchgen.htm Bring the certificate to Algonac, it must be presented at registration. Prepare for takeoff before leaving for Algonac Before you letter up your boat for the season, you need to register with OPA to avoid any duplicate numbers. If you have a question about your number, send an email to [email protected]. Who ever registers first gets the number! Prepare to be amazed in Algonac The response from the racers has been terrific, but we want to make this list complete. If you haven't filled it out yet, please do it now. http://oparacing.homestead.com/Racecommitment.html With this many boats in just a few classes, the level of competition is going to be amazing. Thank you, OPA |
Re: OPA Algonac Racers - please read
Hi Ron,
Excuse my ignorance, but are we suppose to have a Class 1, 2 or 3 FAA physical?? Unless I missed, I didn't notice anything about a CLD physical. Please clarify. |

Re: OPA Algonac Racers - please read
It was always required by the sanctioning bodies, but only enforced by two. APBA and OSS.
down load the form and bring it to your family doc |

Thanks Bruce.
It's the physical to fly a small airplane during daylight hours. Mostly eyesight and reflexes. This year, we must get all racers to show proof of passing the physical. Thanks for your co-operation. |
Re: OPA Algonac Racers - please read
Can any licensed physician perform the physicals or must it be specifically an FAA certified doc?
|
Re: OPA Algonac Racers - please read

Re: OPA Algonac Racers - please read
Ron...In the past any licensed physician was able to perform the DOT or FAA physical, as long as they filled out the necessary Doc's.
Is this a new requirement by the insurance co? |
Re: OPA Algonac Racers - please read
We must being doing this because probably boomer and mama are going to be in the race course in the VIPER..... :D

Is this a new requirement by the insurance co? I don't know how the Drs become certified. I guess the apply to the FAA. Yes, our insurance carrier is the one pushing this. Ron |
Re: OPA Algonac Racers - please read
My regular Doc filled my forms out for APBA a few years ago...not sure if it makes difference, really...????
|
Re: OPA Algonac Racers - please read
Bruce, it is a requirement by the ins co. Previously overlooked. Just trying to tighten up a few things.
|
Re: OPA Algonac Racers - please read
You are misunderstanding my question. I know the insurance co. requires physicals, but does it have to be performed byu a FAA cert. physician? Our DOT form filled out by our family physician was accepted for the last 4 years.

Re: OPA Algonac Racers - please read
DOT, Witch Doctor is good enough.
|
Re: OPA Algonac Racers - please read
DOT = Department of Transporation would be for the CDL equivelent. So yes, that should work.

Re: OPA Algonac Racers - please read
D.O.T. makes it a little easier to find a Doc.

Looks like I'm out ,I won't pass the urine test  until my knee is done. if I take pain meds at night when my knee is at it's worst, would I pass do you think. Or do't race until after the operation. :( I getting a new doc nexted week since the one I just fired never set a date this winter  man I'm pissed. so should I take the test call and ask if it makes a big deal that when I;m in alot of pain I have a script of pain meds to take as needed. I raced in 2002 but did not take any meds til after the race that was for my back then, so should I just watch this year :( art ps I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A KNEE REPLACEMENT FOR 2 YEARS NOW JUST IN CASE SOME OF YOU HAVEN'T HERD ME WHINE ABOUT THIS BEFORE THE WORKERS COMP SAID IN NOV 05 THAT THEY WILL PAY FOR IT IF i GOT A JOB PART TIME. SO NOW THE DOCTOR STILL HASN'T SET UP THE OR THATS WHY I FIRED HIM LAST WEEK. THAT SHOULD BE AGAINST THE LAW TO JUST DRAG YOUR FEET ON PEOPLE. IT DOES'NT HAVE 6 MONTHS TO SET UP A OPERATION!! I'LL STOP WHINING NOW!

Re: OPA Algonac Racers - please read
Pay off the Doctor. :evilb: Get the Cert.
Just watch out for the ocean races. |
Re: OPA Algonac Racers - please read
Air Time,
If you look at the footnote #12 under "Physical Qualifications for drivers, ii", it states: Exception:A driver may use such a subsatance or drug,if the subsatance is prescribed by a licensed medical practitioner..." So as long as you have a legit prescription, you should be OK to race. If all else fails, do what Ron P suggest, bribe the doctor! :D |
Re: OPA Algonac Racers - please read
