Point Pleasant Schedule of Events
Hello Race Fans,
Welcome to OPA's 2006 AMF Offshore Racing Grand Prix, hosted by Jenkinsons and presented by the Jersey Boyz. Come out and see if you have what it takes to run with Da Boyz in big water. Get ready for a weekend of high-octane fun and excitement on June 24th and 25th as offshore racing returns to Point Pleasant Beach New Jersey. This year will be huge with over thirty-five boats, one with turbine power, a parade on Friday night and a new pit area. BRING OUT THE KIDS - The parade is back, and will run from the center of Point Pleasant, across Rt 35 down Arnold Avenue turning left on Chicago Avenue. The parade will go all the up to Broadway, turning toward the ocean, then turning south on Ocean Ave along the boardwalk. The boats will then proceed back to the pits. The parade will start at 7pm on Friday night. NEW PIT AREA - We are excited to announce that we have secured the Mantoloking Cove Marina as our Dry and Wet Pits. This is the old Traders Cove Marina that the township of Brick purchased, located at the foot of the new Mantoloking Bridge in Brick NJ. Using this facility will be great. Everything will be in one location, plenty of room, deep water and lots of open slips. This also means we get to go through the Point Pleasant Canal again, thankfully, the current will be going with us on this trip. AMF IS IN THE HOUSE - The pits will be great as AMF Offshore pulls out all the stops, bringing pit parties to an all-new level. You’re invited to attend the Friday night party after the parade, sponsored by – who else, AMF Offshore Racing! Don’t miss it. www.amfoffshoreracing.com BRING THE KIDS AND THE MARSHMELLOWS - On Saturday, stop by and meet Ken Warby and watch as he fires up his jet-powered boat. Not turbine – Jet as in thrust not propellers. Ken is the current world water speed record holder. He traveled 317.6-MILES PER HOUR and lived to tell about. And he’s getting ready to do it again and go after his own record. Ken and his new boat will be on display throughout the weekend. www.kenwarby.com WE NEED HELP - Would you like to be a part of the action? If you would like to help score the race, and can stay sober until the race is over, (not always easy to do) we need you. Actually we need eight people that will be stationed on the turn boats (two per boat) and keep track of the race boats as they go around the turn buoys. If you’re interested, send an email to [email protected]. You’ll have the best seat in the house. IS YOUR BOAT READY - This is a weekend race so we really need plenty of patrol boats to keep the course free of fishing boats and spectators. We anticipate a huge spectator fleet and depending on where the fish are, we might have a lot of fisherman to remove from the course. We could use a dozen more patrol boats to help keep our racers safe. We could also use one more tall boat for a turn boat. Something larger than 38’ with a flybridge and outriggers would be perfect. If you’re interested in having the most fun you’ve ever had using your boat, go to http://njoffshore.homestead.com/volunteer.html and fill out the volunteer form. Thanks to the twenty captains that have already signed up. CAN’T MAKE IT - For those of you at home, www.talkoffshore.com will be covering the race from flag to flag with live coverage from Martin Sanborn. Jeff Gerardi from Freeze Frame Video will be taking Aerial video footage of the race. www.freezeframevideo.net Here’s a rundown of events. Re: Point Pleasant Schedule of Events
Augie,
Check your email. I have a place that you might be able to hold the awards at. And it is closest to the Pits! :drink: On a side note: The ramp in that Marina is shallow. At high tide you may have 3 feet. It would be best if everyone craned in on the North side of the marina. Plenty of water there. Good luck! |
Re: Point Pleasant Schedule of Events
It will be worth the trip to the pits just to hear Warby crank up the Jet
It is an awesome sight and it shakes buildings :evilb: |
