OPA points system

There I was thinking again and now that this years points are done I want to throw this out there. My idea would be to award points to the teams based on how many boats they raced against and beat. The system we have now is OK for one class but does not tell the true story of the high points leader of the year. In my opinion if there are only 2-4 boats in a class all year and you show up to most of the races you will be high points champ. On the other hand the guys in P5 and P4 race an average of 8-10 boats all year which makes it much harder to achieve points.
I'm not knocking anyone for there accomplishments in the past just looking to the future.
Any thoughts guys?
MD

Since you get one point for each boat you beat on top of the 100 points for winning, the more boats in your class, the more points you get.

Beat 2 boats (that would be three boats in the class) and get 102 points. Beat 9 other boats (10 total) and you get 109 points.

You still nee to attend all the races to even have a shot at the title.

i went into cambridge with a 7 point lead over herbot and left with a point lead we bolth finished 1st in bolth races------- so classes with more boats have the advantage

Hi guys,
I get where MD was going but as you said there is a point reward for competing against more boats. I have a suggestion that has to do with starting, breaking and finishing.
A base line point award for just showing up (sometimes we can break something testing or such and not be able to race), a per lap finished point award, this can be helpful in 2 ways you get points for being prepared to finish and it keeps racers from dumping out if they are in a guarenteed spot to place. We had a great season, learned a lot and met a lot of great people.
Thanx,
Louie
