permits for towing in FLA
 

I was at Jim Simmons shop last night and he mentioned that permits were required for towing in FLA. Anybody know what the restrictions are and were info is on getting them. it appeared that overall length of under 28 feet is exempt, ant truth to that?

any legal length is allowed. wide loads/ and over sized loads must be permited

Thanks Mike. it was my understanding that anything that is towed needs a permit of some kind. Camper, boat, car trailer . . . anything over 28 feet. it actually originally came off an NHRA site i think, just check'in

Here's a note that was sent out earlier this year (I'd assume that cause this was released that rule may have changed from last year)

Gainesville travelers: Florida over-length information 3/2/2007



NHRA has been informed by the Interstate Registration Service that Florida is requiring any vehicle with an overall length (truck and trailer) of more than 65 feet or a trailer length of more than 28 feet to have a Special Road Use Permit to enter and to leave Florida.



According to the Florida Department of Transportation Office of Maintenance Permit Office, the state is checking trailer length, kingpin settings, and overall length of all vehicle and trailer combinations (semi-trailer length, straight truck-trailer combination, bus combination, and non-commercial vehicle combinations).



Florida law provides for a penalty of $250 per foot over length, not to exceed $1,000, per vehicle for any vehicle that does not have an overdimensional road-use permit.

Just keep your rocket cup in your pocket and when you get pulled over and they ask to see your ID just Say" I have a Rocket in my Pocket" and show him.. Florida Sate Cops are known for there humor.. than hit the gas, make them work for that ticket..

OK . . . just called them. looks like any truck/trailer combo under 65 feet will not need a permit and he said it was based on overall length. I asked him about the 28 foot limit on just the trailer and he said he wasnt aware of that and it was only based on the 65 foot limit. anything in the 65 to 85 foot range (this means you Jimmy :D) needs a permit that is only like 5 or ten bucks. heres the funny part you need one for coming AND leaving.

I mentioned the problem to Simmons last night and he said he thought the problem is in the gaskets for the lower pan . . . . .
