Default helmet set ups

Are there any particular type of helmets and/or communication systems that work well? Are they all just stock helmets that have been custom made? Any particular brands?

I believe the rule book states DOT Approved, We use Tiger Performance for ours, they are pricey but work well. I know there are others as well. Louie

If you are going with the full time air set up make sure you get the correct face mask. Have it fitted with a clean shaven face (mustashes o.k. as long as they are not bushy) and make sure you get a good seal so it will work correctly if it is ever needed. Unfortunately some get full face pieces and never really ask or have them correctly fitted-tighter is not better. If you have a beard or don't shave when you strap it on it will not seal correctly and air will leak around the unsealed areas as well as the possibility of letting water in. The full time air mask system is a good piece of equipment, but only if used, worn and serviced correctly. Also remember if it is damaged that's it, no back up. you may want to consider a manual regulator system as a back up if your budget allows.

If you have any questions on fittings or how it works ask them while you are dry. If you are wet it is too late.

just my .02 worth...

get peltors and a regulator zip tied to the helmet, off to the side. we do every race. fulltime can fail, $100 bills taped to your helmet will get a diver everytime and faster
