Best start ever?
Whats the best start you have had by the pace boat and what would you change if you could?
I personally thought the best start in OPA for me was I believe in Cambridge. Smitty took us around the course and held us till we were lined up and had the pace boat going aprox. 45-50 mph. He pointed to any team that was pushing the line and waved them back and then with no expression on his face someone raised the green. IT WAS PERFECT!!! There is nothing worse then traveling all the way to a race and being ready and some volunteer starts us when no one is on the line. Normally its not there fault because they have never done this before. I believe this is one area that should be run like a well oiled machine. There is to much at stake for most teams. MD |
Also can anyone remember of ANY team that jumped the start getting penalized?
MD |
And then again what is the penalty?

My "favorite" start was the one where Geico lapped us before we even got the green.

I think the most fun start was at the Point Pleasant race 2002 ?-the 10 mile straight leg to Seaside Heights.

Randy I agree 100% The boats should be lined up, and should start at 45 to 50 mph, not 70 plus like most races (for class 5) I thank it was the New York race last year that we were on the chip before the green went up, and 2 or 3 boats were a half lap behine.

I also like pulling cards to see what lane you are in.

My Best start? The pace boat starting us in the inlet in Puerto Rico. 107 out the inlet to 8 ft seas, wondering who was going to pull first. Then an immediate right when you cleared the rocks. Now Randy, I know you remember that one. I still dream about it.

OPA Starts. We realized at Cambridge this year we needed to work on the starts. This year we will be on our game. I cant wait to start Class 5. I wish I was in that class. You guys are going to have a blast. Randy, Superheat is building your identicle boat.

I heard that. He will love that rocket. Same boat but different team:cool-smiley-011:.
Yes PR was a very intense race in that water. I remember you and I believe Fury hangin and bangen in some crazy water. Those races are hard on the wallet but will live with you FOREVER!! MD |
I have the best start every race but dont follow through most of the time.:evilb:

I kinda liked the St Claire Race last year Class 1 and 2 all went into turn 1 together flat out. A start that was rough on us was Algonac 2006 a couple of big Vee's and a 28 skater called Catcando running on glass, the pace boat brought us down to about 42 MPH then drops the flag, the Vee's were plowing like underpowered Bertrams and the cat took off like it was shot out of a cannon and never looked back lol those guys can run.

Turn two is a problem as well. I would swear you were trying to unscrew that thing.

My favorite start? Is when you are sitting there clenching the steering wheel, you look at your competitor, you see sweat beading down their face and then the green flag goes down and your into the first turn, you want the lead and then smack, she hits you in the side you turn the steering wheel hard to the right to push back and then you push them into the bank. Making sure that you are in the lead and then the rest is history because by now you have gained the lead and she can not catch up to you. So the win is yours!!!!!!:evilb:
Oh yeah as far as racing goes I will always favor St.Clair's starts. That start of mine was in Oval Track Racing |
