P class questions

Are lap belts legal in p class with 1/4 canopies? I asked this question but I have no answers yet. I am working with a friend that wants to go racing in P class in Popra and then the worlds in Key West.

If he goes to the worlds does he have to join SBI or OPA? He will already be with Popra.

What is the different breakout speeds for P2 and P1 in Opa/Sbi and Popra?

Is Popra with Opa?

Thanks in advance,
pat W

Pat, please talk them out of the lap belts, that is insane... my guess is they would have to join SBI at KW, as last year.

Chris,

The reason for the belt is so that you do not have to deal with the 1/4 canopy on a roll over. I think it would be safer to stay in it.

The five point is too restrictive on movement that the spine and body do naturally.

The seat is shock mitigated not rigid bolted to the deck.

I think remember sometime back the f2 guys were velcroing themselves to the bolsters to stay with the boat. Or was I dreaming.

Hello Pat, In POPRA lap belts are not permitted in quarter canopy boats. Break out speeds for POPRA are as follows; P2 - 105, P3- 95, P4- 85, P5- 75, P6- 65 MPH

Brad?

Does that mean you can run a 5 point? Or a 2 5/16 trailerball?

Are propra rules like SBI or OSS? I checked through the SBI rules but there was no mention of seatbelts in P class. I haven't looked at OSS yet because it was supposed to be like p1 in europe I think.

I was looking a the donzi pic of it completely upsidedown and the guy just about to skip off the water. Something tells me he would have been better off riding it out in the boat.

Let me know,

Pat, as far as i know and i am pretty shure NO seat belts are permitted in an open cockpit.
Quarter canopy is an open cockpit !

In SBI the speedbrackets are almost the same, instaed of 95 or 85 its 92 and 82 and sofort.

Hope i could help.

Pat,
I know of the pic your talking about, and he walked away. Sore for a few days but walked away the boat landed upside down, had he been knocked out or hurt in such a mannner as to not be able to extract himself, he would not have made it.

Talk to the experts, OSS safety crew, Pop and The stars.
you will get the real answer to a serious question.

What happened to the other guy in the boat? Did he stay with it?

I know there are good reasons but I am looking for basics that are not clear in the rules.

A wreck is never the same. What works for one instant is not so hot for another.

I will check with J.C. in Sarasota this weekend.

Thanks everyone,

pat W
