I know everyone is searching hard but has anyone checked inside the boat up in the cabin? It is possable that he could have ended up in there.
MD

scandelousJR 10-13-2008 12:58 PM

yes they have checked the boat but there really isn't much of a "cabin" anyway. After the boat flipped it landed right side up and then once it was dragged to the beach it sank. The area where they crashed is a pretty big area and the water gets to be very very deep.

Does Pat have a vest on? What is the water like?

Karaokemike 10-13-2008 01:06 PM

I just left Bobby at the hospital, he is in good sprits and wanted to thank everyone for their well wishes. It looks like he will be there until Thursday or Friday. Please keep everyone invloved in your thoughts and prayers. As I get more information I will pass it on.

I don't beleive so, but I am not completely sure about the vest. The water wasn't very rough but there were a lot of boats out as it was a really nice day, the water temp is still fairly warm here, I saw some kids tubing on Sat.

I just heard from my mom and Joe (scandelous) and they are still out searching, only stopping for gas. If I hear anything else I will let you know.

BTW the link I posted above has been up-dated again.

It's a river emptying into the Chesapeake Bay, very deep there.

Just got off the phone with Joe Peary, Pats friend, and crew for Hot Licks racing. He said they are still out there now looking for Pat with about 15 other boats there helping. No sign of Pat thus far. Joe said the water is about 100 foot deep where the accident occured. Spoke to Bobby's mom and she said Bobby is fine but banged up a little. Anything the Reiter family may need please let me know. My deepest sympathy. Alan Petitt-OPA Racing

Its great having you around as a good freind and racer.....and what a great way to promote our sport with another father and son race team.....your 2 chipmunks are learning from the squirrel that in life, giving is just as important as receiving....and they are seeing first hand Dad is setting the example.....one day you'll be sitting back on your rocking chair...(of course the one you made from scap metal from soda cans you welded together) and watching your 2 chipmunks have grown up to be great squirrel's just like pop is......

This was posted last month in another thread speaking about Pat and his team. I only met Pat a few short months ago at our first race in Ocean City and he was one of the first guys to come over to us and introduce himself. He said "hi i'am Squirrel from OSO if theres any thing you need let me know" And from that moment on he treated my team and me like family. With much sadness in my heart I say God Bless Pat and his Family you will be sadly missed.

Update: I had just gotten in from the water. I first, on behalf the the family, want to thank everyone for thier well wishes. The Rieter Family is pround to be associated with such a professional group of team mates. I had been on the water since 6:00 am, with approx. 15 of Pats close friends and 6 DNR and CC boats and 3 helicopters. We are continuing the search for Pat in the morning. The water in the area of the accident is about 125' deep. The curent rips at 5 to 6 knots. The body of water is in the Patuxent River in Calver County MD. The river is about 3/4 mile wide at it's narrowest point. Josh and Kenny are fine, and will make a speed recovery. BobbyB as Mike had mentioned is doing better and expects to make a full recovery also. I also want to thank everyone who called today wanting to help in the search. I will update as I can. I will be on the water to help in the search tomorrow at 6:00 am. If you wish to contact me tomorrow, please feel free to do so at Joe Peary 301-904-9993.

Update:

As the search continues into the night for Pat there is a glimmer of hope for day break. I have had divers on my boat this afternoon searching the the pilings and the framewaork of the 1000' long, US Navy pier that had turned up clear. While the divers were onboard this evening, DNR boats with sonar devises onboard their boat, had located an "area of interest". This area was maked this evening with bouyes in the general area of the accident. The area of interest is in about 120' of water. The plan is to send divers in the area tomorrow morning with divers certified at that depth to investigate the image found. An investigator from the Maryland Department of Natural Reasources had ask me to give a statement of what I knew about the accident. Due the fact that I was the last one to see them prior to the accident. He had came to my house after learning that my boat was the sister ship of bobby's boat and wanted to learn more about the motors, top speed haul configuation, etc. I spoke with Bobby's mother this evening and she claimed that his condition is stable and improving. Kenny, in also still in the hospital with his leg injury. Josh, although sore, is up and walking and was helpping today with the search for Pat. Please understand that the information given on the findings today is preliminary and still under investigation. We all have a tremendous amount of hope for the mornings search. Mike, Augie and Allen, I very much appriciate your calls today and will let you know how things develop in the afternoon. I am sorry if I couldn't answer everyones calls today, but I promiss I will try and do better tomorrow. God bless the families and thank the OPA and friends for your support.
