I'm with you, new logo is way to go. No reason to throw out tradition though. Use old logo on t shirts. New logo is more professional for use with media, sponsors, etc...

I like Rick's logo, not the one above, the one in post 9. (I like the one above, but its not sponsor friendly)

I like the first logo Ron posted; It's very clean and gives you lots of options for lay-out work.

Plus it would look good on TV
