Race is cancelled.
However, the Friday night street party is still on. If you are in Long Island, please attend the street party with your boat. Contact Louie for Details. |
I'm sorry to hear the race is cancelled, rather than post-poned. I want to thank Louie for all of his efforts putting this race together. We know he was up against major "obsticles", and did'nt back down.

Race is cancelled for what reason?!?!?!?!?!
Chris Irene, a major Category 3 hurricane, battered the low-lying Bahamas southeast of Florida on Thursday and was expected to sweep northward to hit the North Carolina coast on Saturday, before raking up the remaining Atlantic seaboard. "All the major metropolitan areas along the Northeast are going to be impacted by the close proximity of the way Irene is going to pass," National Hurricane Center Director Bill Read told Reuters Insider on Thursday. "Being a large hurricane, tropical storm-force winds will extend far inland." After hitting North Carolina, Irene was expected to weaken to a still-dangerous Category 2 storm on the five-step Saffir-Simpson intensity scale, and move on Sunday into the Delaware, Maryland and Virginia coastal region, and then up to New York on Monday, Read said. A Category 2 storm carries winds of 96 to 110 mph. He said Irene could mimic the path of Hurricane Gloria in 1985, a Category 3 storm that hit North Carolina's Outer Banks and then slammed into New York's Long Island and curved through New England, causing $900 million of damage. |
A foot of rain is expected to fall between 8am and 6pm on Sunday with winds between 70 and 90mph.

I would rather see the race canceled for this reason than have it canceled due to political BS...
Great fight Louie and Kevin ! It just wasn't in the cards this season... http://sharkeyimages.zenfolio.com/img/v32/p19005839.png |

Hard call but the right call. We all wanted to race. Thanks for all you have done Louie! You know we were all behind you till the last min. Maybe we will call it "good night Irean race"next year. Your staff is on there A game in my book. This only makes the next race that much sweeter in LI. Dont let this derail the years of hard work. Typhoon will ALWAYS support your events. Racing needs more promoters like you with a never die attitude.
