Its great to read about a thriving org that thinks to keep and develop additional boats and racers. Smitty and the entire OPA management have always been great to our needs when we had the opportunity to race, and we where always on a budget. If you can do much of the handy work yourself, and research costs, you will always save. Ed stated it best that the fun and enjoyment factor is priceless, and the competition is awesome. The friendships are lifelong and one of a kind. Not to mention, the learning that one can achieve is also great!
Keep up the strong work OPA. |

[QUOTE=Fast Shafts;3567977]Mike,
I race a class 6 boat, 606 Lock'd Up Bandit. I'm based out of NJ. The biggest expense by far is fuel to tow to a race. I raced Sunny Isles, Port Huron and Soloman Island. I spent approximately 4,000. I usually arrive on Saturday am, this way I save one night on motel, restaurant fees. I also leave Sunday night after the race for the same reasons. I usually don't drink and often skip the racer party. I also avoid purchasing pictures at the race, but buy them in the off season, or if a special is offered. By making reservations months ahead of time, you can usually get better rates. My girlfriend always prints out coupons for restaurants (Olive Grarden, Friodays, etc.) Before leaving. I didn't have any breakdowns with the boat. My driver does mechanical work on my boat in exchange for driving. Hope this information helps.Good information working sharing&planning cuts your costs no break downs helps a great deal also to share a honest estimate!:drink: Good luck in 2012 be safe! |

Apparently Louie, they don't teach cell phone usage in Mercury's Master Mechanics class........ John keeps using the right and left buttons on the phone in an attempt to trim the phone. I don't even want to guess as to what he uses as practice for the throttle.........
By the way, these boats have trim?!?!?!?!?!:coolcowboy: Dammmm......I might have to step up to class 4 now that I found that out!! |
