class 6 rules

I know I'm old and don't understand a lot of things.BUT!! I read thru the rules.Am I correct ,I could run a 26'foot boat in the class with any power option as long as the boat does not run faster than 70 mph.My son want's to build a 6 boat and we are just trying to get our train going in the same direction .I'm sure this sounds stupid but just making sure. Thanks JOHN SR I mean a Class 6 boat not a 6 drive

The OPA classes are bracket racing, based on the NHRA bracket racing program.

In Class 6, our breakout speed is 70mph. The onboard GPS recorder, purchased from OPA, records the speed of the boat over the course of the race. If you go over 70 mph (70.1 or more) 3 times during the race, you are DQ'd.

At the meeting yesterday, OPA announced a 650 HP limit for Class 6, to be enforced with a prop dyno, so no, you can't have any power.

Boat has to be 26' or less, single engine

Any other questions? We'll be happy to answer them. Class 6 has a great group of teams that will help anyway we can.

No problem. Don't hesitate to contact any of us for info or ask us at the races. We'll be in Ocean City in May.

Don't let the bracket racing dissuade you. It is close gunnel to gunnel racing & class 6 is one of the largest classes at every race.

Why the Bravo style drive?

Rich it was my understanding that the hp wont be capped effective immediately and it will still be bracket racing. With the prop dyno, class 6 will eventually evolve into a capped hp, heads up class.
But either way its sounding like in the near future this will kick in. so building a monster might be a waste in due time

OPA has allowed the Reindl One Design (Bat Boat) run in Class 6 with a 383 GM Vortec & Volvo Penta DPX-A (not sure of length of boat)

They have also allowed a 21' SOB Intimidator to run in class 6.

Volvo drive is OK, the batboats use them. I misspoke on the bravo style drive requirement. Sorry

I wouldn't show up with a #6 drive, though!

I think its a effort to keep the class affordable. Somebody with deep pockets puts a 6 on a boat and everybody will feel as though they gotta go drop $25g to keep up with the jonses to compete.
