We'll probably still be working on the boat in the pits, but we'll be there.

If anyone comes down early and needs something, let me know, I live here.

There anything we can do to help Barry?

TeamSaris 05-01-2012 08:50 PM

I heard a rumor (Just a rumor nobody freak out) that a 28 Profile Cat might have a 5 on the side of it for OC? Im 100% against that...next ya thing know we'll have a 28 Skater in the class.

Pwrbt33 05-02-2012 06:06 AM

I heard theres a 28 skater with 225 Optimax's on it coming to OC!:whistle::eekdrop:

smcser 05-02-2012 06:56 AM

Why should there be a problem with a cat in class 5?

TeamSaris 05-02-2012 08:03 AM

Its Vee Bottom only class. Always has been. Im guessing most everyone in the class will agree. It opens the door for a 28 Skater to show up. We cant compete with that

smcser 05-02-2012 08:22 AM

The rules don't say you can't run a cat do they? Also, in rough water, v's will out do a cat any day and in smooth water a cat will do good. Most of OPA's sites are more rough water so the v's should be stronger. We all can only do 75mph max and the twin engine boats have the power to pull away from the single engine unless the single engine is big power the their speed would be much faster than 75.

TeamSaris 05-02-2012 08:31 AM

Its an un-written rule. Pathetic, I know, but noone can arugue that. Its the same reason Lightning Jacks wouldnt be allowed in Class 4. Past 2 years, OPA has had 99% calm water. There are no twin engine C5 boats racing in OC. Unless you have a 496 in your boat, it goes faster than 75. I have A LOT of seat time in a 28 Profile. Its by far the best handling single engine cat ive ever run. With the right guy running it at 75mph none of us will be able to turn like it. And its not your boat running with us that bothers me, its the fact that it literally opens the door for all cats to run C5. IF this is the case, Im selling the Krypto and building a 28 Skater.

smcser 05-02-2012 08:36 AM

If memory serves me Specalized was a twin outboard and Who's your daddy was twins I think.
Yes a cat can turn tighter but running with Simmons marine side by side he would always just walk away from us out of the turn. Ths class 4 boats will anyday walk a single engine boat.

Lefty555 05-02-2012 08:37 AM

yeah, that aint happening......if it does then why even have rules...just set the speed limit and run what ya want....i could see maybe in class 4, but not class 5:whistle:

TeamSaris 05-02-2012 08:38 AM

Whos Your Daddy isnt making OC
Specializied is twin outboard, different ball game.
SVL's seem to do pretty well in C4
And just so Im clear, Its not your boat at all I have a problem with. Its the precedent it sets.

2FastWarlock 05-02-2012 10:40 AM

We'll be there Friday evening sometime, hopefully in time for the party... thats one thing we can do well!

This is copied from page 40 of the "Official OPA Rulebook"

PERFORMANCE CLASSES
DESIGINATION TOP SPEED NUMBER
Class X Up to 150 MPH X-#
Class 1 Up to 115 MPH *** 1-#
Class SV Up to 105 MPH SV-#
Class 3 Up to 95 MPH 3-#
Class 4 Up to 85 MPH 4-#
Class 5 Up to 75 MPH ** 5-#
Class 6 Up to 70 MPH* 6-#
*Performance Class 6 is designed as an entry level class. No boats over 26
feet in length and no boats with twin engines may compete in this class.
**The Performance 5 class is limited to boats 30 ft and under with single or twin engines.
***
Performance Class 1 Boats are limited 115 MPH as a top speed. This speed may be
adjusted on a race by race basis depending upon conditions at each race site.

Its not about precedence, young patawan, its just not in the rulebook. In my brief couple of stints racing in C5, I noticed there was a ton of "unwritten rules". Dont get me wrong, most of the "unwritten rules" have a plethora of merit, however, they are "unwritten". Why dont you organize your class, send out a ballot for vote and request to the powers that be that they be instituted and applied to the rulebook to avoid any further complications. Once the powers that be review the requested additional rules, they can consult with their corporate attorneys and insurance underwriters, then they can be implemented. Its all so simple.

Johnny - It's very cool of you to ask, I think we are just going to squeek by. But i may take you up on your offer n the pits. Luckily I'm off the Thursday and Friday before the race. Still have my race GPS (it came today) and some other things like the mandatory radio, but we are getting things done each night. We plan to fire the boat Saturday (the motor is already DYNO'D) and do some testing in Baltimore on Sunday. Cross your fingers for us.

fastedy 05-02-2012 08:34 PM

theirs been a single engine cat running in C4, not sure of the make but they ran well with the SVL in Cambridge.
