OPA Racing is ready to launch the Heritage Coast Offshore Grand Prix in East Tawas, MI
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 05/09/2012 OPA left no stone unturned in the attempt to have an offshore race in New Jersey. Unfortunately, even with all the efforts, we were unable to have a race produced in the state of New Jersey for the 2012 season, have no fear, we have plans. The city of East Tawas, MI has opened their doors and is welcoming us into their town for the 1st Heritage Coast Offshore Grand Prix on June 22 - 24, 2012. All is a go, we have the Green Light from both the Town Council & Coast Guard. For more information about the race site visit: http://oparacing.org/race2.html ======================================= Now your next question might be, Where is East Tawas? Webster’s definition of community is “a unified body of individuals.” East Tawas is a small, close-knit community with people who really take pride in our city. From our residential areas to our business district, the care given to each other, our visitors, and our properties is a reflection of the level of pride taken by so many people in our city. Part of our pride comes from past generations. We are fortunate to have many people who have been able to work and retire here after graduating from Tawas Area High School. We continue to build on what our parents and grandparents and generations before those were able to accomplish. It is the collective efforts of all these generations that have made East Tawas the outstanding community it is today. One of the frequent comments we hear from visitors is how friendly our people are. If you’re walking down the street and pass someone, you’re very likely to get a sincere “hello”… with eye contact! The same holds true for our businesses, whose employees and owners exemplify friendliness and make your shopping experience enjoyable. We are a community that looks out for each other. Our neighbors know and talk to each other. They help each other when one is in need. We are a community with many volunteers. From the various festivals held throughout the year, to planting flowers in city landscaped plots, to serving on various City boards, commissions and authorities, to the volunteer fire department, we are a community where people will step forward to offer a hand and make us a better community. We are proud.... We are community.... We are East Tawas! http://www.easttawas.com/ Link to article on website: http://www.oparacing.org/2012ready_l...20120409152129 |

What airport do I fly in to for Tawas?
|
Flint baycity air port or detroit metro wich is about 3hrs south of tawas
|
Definitely Flint Bishop Airport....roughly 2 hours drive to E. Tawas!
That weekend is my birthday! Awesome! Chris |
East Tawas & Tawas City are awesome boating destinations. I go there a lot when I take the Donzi to the cabin in Oscoda which is just north a ways. There are plenty of cool watering holes in town and beaches and a historic lighthouse. Everything you need is within walking distance of the municipal marina. I might have to make it to this race.

Whats the deal on hotels there? Not really coming up with much online

I know there are smaller motels there and B&Bs and cabins. expand your search to include Tawas City.
|
Plus West Branch has a couple Super 8's or maybe its Red Roof inns.. but thats about 25/30min back down the road toward I75

http://www.tawasbaybeachresort.com/ Also search Oscoda, MI which is 16 miles north. |
There is a holiday inn or use to be, right down at the beach near the public marina

You might try this one, it used to be a holiday inn.
http://www.tawasbaybeachresort.com/ Also search Oscoda, MI which is 16 miles north. There are 5 or 6 mom and pop type motels as well in Tawas City/East Tawas. As mentioned above, Oscoda, Au Gres, or West Branch (in that order closest-farthest) will also have lodging. Closest big airport is MBS(Bay City, Saginaw area) but Flint is also a good choice and about 45 minutes farther away. East Tawas is a nice area and fun town if there is something going on, pretty excited to see this happening there. Only bad thing for me is I already have plans that weekend :angry-smiley-038: |
Saginaw is a nice little airport if you can get a flight in there.

East Tawas!
Hot Java - skip the River Roar! Cool to see the OPA coming to Tawas. I'm sure the racers will love the area and the water. Good luck East Tawas/Tawas and the OPA!
