Entry Level is a great concept, but not in offshore. It only takes a year or two before your no longer a new guy, so what is the next step a limit on how many seasons your aloud before having to move up or out? Class 6 was entry level and still is, its not the power or experience of the driver/throttleman, its really speed, no rookie should be in a 105mph class runnin dead nuts even with somebody down to turn one, and class 6 is very cost effective i have a lot of power and advantages and each race i lost sleep every time i saw rich & pete role in with a stock 496 for power, in an outdated boat. Its not the hull either my 1979 can win on any given day against any of the Jokers or new hulls in the class, 3 straight nationals now, and the Bajas that are said to be uncompetitive won the worlds in orange beach, Seat Time and Consistancy win races, and thats what class 6 was intended to accomplish, its a get your feet wet at a safer speed class, and get to see how you messure up with some of the Vets. Not taking shots just my 2 cents, i think the single outboard class is awesome by the way, if 6 is in a different race i got a little something for that class!

I respectfully disagree.I think it makes sense to have this class as part of the first race...OPEN COCKPIT VEE BOTTOMS...CLASS 5, CLASS 6 and CLASS 7 in the first race..XTREME,CLASS 1,CLASS 2,CLASS 3,CLASS 4 and SVL in the second race....in the second race...X,1 and 2 could start together,3 and 4 could start together, and SVL could have its own start.Just my opinion.
And at the ocean events,a maximium of two races should be held. Too much in logistics to hold 1 race on Sat. Chopper/patrols boats/ medical, etc..Need to add boats to big show on Sunday, not water down the show between 2 days. If we had 50 boats regularly, that would be something else. |

OPA is not in the business in making every boat competitive. It is your job to build a boat to a class, not OPA to make a class for your boat. |

My personal opinion for the proposed S/O class was a weight limit and HP limit, and or a "stock aluminum pitch prop" limit.. basically keeping the speeds under 70mph or around.. but make it a spec class, not GPS, no speed limit.. but as I work trade shows over the winter and this makes it impossible to attend the OPA awards banquet I cant really offer my opinion..

As most of you may know. I am not much of a poster. That being said here are some thoughts, as it appears that this thread, like many on OSO deviate from the original course. I agree with Boomer, Those who start off in a racing, in a lower bracketed racing class do tend to move up to faster speeds and larger boats; it is indicative of progress, and growth. However, having participated with the OPA and being a racing enthusiast, I hope to enjoy CLASS 7 for many years. My excitement for this class stems from the possibility of working out the details in a financially feasible set up; the safety of hopefully racing with a family member at a controlled speed, and running with an organization that supports my love of sport. Please note, we have been granted permission to race with OPA. Should anyone have any questions please feel free to reach out to Me (Christian) or Mark H.
