Couple ideas to make "racing" better now, without re-working the program

Idea #1: I have always liked is a 2 race program (OSS Did this a few times I believe)

Now lets use class 6 as an example: we do 1 race for 42
miles now, 8 laps. How about we run 2 races at 4 laps each instead?

as you know the boats get spread out after 4/5 laps and the fans
start to lose interest. 2 "short" races would keep the boat together
thus having better racing for the fans. Than invert the finishing
order of the 1st race to start the 2nd race. Might even add some
strategy for the teams

Also a set time for a meet and greet with fans.

There is enough trouble getting 1 clean start per race lmao

Is there time for two C6 races?

Fast Shafts 02-12-2013 11:21 AM

Rick, this was actually tried in Cambridge Md. one year. We ran on Saturday and Sunday.

I raced those, but I'm talking about two races the same day.

Time restraints might make it difficult at courses like St Clair with the freighters, or maybe permit problems as it might take longer than normal.

But if we started on time and ran a tight ship (not waiting on people to fix there boats) it could be done.

Example program:
12:00-12:30 Class 6 and 5
12:45-1:15 Class 4 and 3
1:30 - 2:00 Class 2 and 1

2:15 - 2:45 Class 6 and 5 again
3:00 - 3:30 Class 4 and 3 again
3:45 - 4:15 Class 2 and 1 again

4:30 - 5:30 all spec classes (if any)

or maybe 6,5 & 4 in 1 heat and 3,2 & 1 in another depending on boat count.

Full day of fun in the sun for the fans...

1 Race at 40 miles or 2 short races at 20 is still 40 miles total. If your boat cant make 2 20 mile
races why would it make 1 40 mile race (unless you smash it*)

Cool idea but whos going to have time to change engine/drive oil between races and re-fuel if there in the same day?

Do you change your oil mid race now? or re-fuel?

Not adding the distance to the race, just making two short one.
