Class 700
whose coming out to play for a few races?
|
Likely entrants:
1) 22 Apache, Toasty 2) 22 Velocity, Waterboy/Fast Shafts 3) 22 Apache, Gregg A. 4) 21 Checkmate, Lake Hopatcong 5) 21 Superboat, Vnemous Possible Entrants: 6) 21 Superboat, JD-Special Edition?? 7) 21 Challenger, Fuller Marine?? 8) 21 Superboat, Coen Jr.?? 9) 22 Avanti, Phragle-end of season???? I think if we get 3-4 boats for the first race it will be a good start. Class 6 started off with 2-3 and quickly grew. On the Scream and Fly website, a new member, "JD Merc", said he may have to "dust off his old lifeline". JD raced in this class 20 years ago. I think this is the JD who eventually raced with his father in the Open class boat "Special Edition"!! JD would certainly bring some credibility to this class. Hope he races!! Anyone else?? |
22 Avanti!
|
possibly
9) 22 Avanti SBYC I may make the end of the season if Im lucky...but next year I shall destroy!! (probably my boat but...) I will have a better idea next week when I pick up the boat I bought sight unseen, need to convert from i/o to eggbeater too.... |

Is there a link to the rules for this class? It looks like a great idea!
|
dont think there is anything officially posted yet..
as I understand it: 1) 21-23' 2) must be 2 people in boat 3) single outboard 4) I have heard either 250 or 300 hp max.........??? 5) 60 mph max speed using OPA GPS unit. Think that about covers it. |
Would an old 20' Sutphen Super Pacer qualify? I think they are actually a bit smaller than 20', but they are a competitor to the Challenger/SB/Apache 21/22. I would love to get in on this, though probably not this season. I hope it works out!
|
Dba900-I would think the Sutphen would qualify. If at all possible, we need boats to race-this year! We wouldn't want OPA to delete this class if there wasn't enough interest.
|
Latest I heard was 18-22' with a 250max but they were talking about bringing it down to 225 and a 60 mph bracket but there was talk of bringing it down to 55mph!!

Yeah, that would be really helpful. I doubt I'd be able to get in on this right now, but this seems like exactly the sort of low-cost racing that will attract more people. I suspect it's going to take more than a year for the class to build momentum, so I hope they give it more than a year. I didn't know they were doing this until I saw this thread. Better publicity would be helpful!

I think 18 would be a mistake. Someone will get hurt. 20-22 and leave it be.

Reggie style:lolhit: |
i agree, i think they give the 18' length cause they know people lengthen but i agree.. 21-22
|
They Should Make It To 24Ft Theres A Bunch Of 24 Superboats Around I Am Sure U Would Attract Those People To Race
|
I think 22 to 24 is right at the tipping point.
A 22 is a big small boat. A 24 is a small big boat if that makes sense? |
24s would have an unfair advantage, you know better than that JD

It's not always size. The quality of the ride matters also!:evilb:
Plus once your rig is too big your launching options are limited:lolhit: Call whenever. MD |
