Opa contact?

I need to find out what class I can run my boat in. I have left several messages on the voice mail. I run in P1 and want to race next weekend. I fig my boat runs close to 70 so prob p6. I was told before if i got 3 or more p1 to show up we could have our own class. I wont be able to do that until AC race. So trying to plan my weekend. Any help would be appreciated.

Per the letter of the rulebook with your boat being a 28' Panther you would be in Class 5, however this is a Smitty decision and I am sure he will see this post and return your call

Thank you. They advertise it as a 28 but I believe if you do the true bottom running service it's basically a fountain so its only 26 bottom.

Welcome to Class 6!!!!

SVL-WARLOCK 05-07-2013 06:36 AM

Thank you. Looking forward to it.

OPA is allowing 28' boats in class 6? That is NOT what the rules say! Speed wise-these boats may be competative in class 6 for Lake Hopatcong, however in the three ocean races, this is a huge advantage. Length matters. Why mess with something that is working? Is this official?

Its on the internet it must be !!!! LOL And Im a French model.

Have you plum bobbed it? Drop a line from the front molding and then one from the transome. Measure between it for your true length.
I would love to see it at the race!!!!!

Sounds like class 5 to me...our boat is 28ft and I can guarantee it has a shorter keel than your pantera ....besides you would be more competitive in class 5...you need 900hp to run p6...lol

Ron P 05-08-2013 10:33 AM

Relax guys. It's a 26' running surface with a SINGLE 200 OB. Tops out at 68. I don't think there's too much to worry about. At some point if enough of these boats show up they can have their own class.

Lets welcome a few new teams this weekend.

Lefty555 05-08-2013 10:57 AM

Whoops...my bad...missed the outboard part...lol...yeah class 6

Fast Shafts 05-08-2013 12:15 PM

I have no problem welcoming new racers to OPA.
I guess we can agree to disagree. What happens in Atlantic City when this boat, or similar boats show up-and have a distinct advantage due to length? I guess this would open the door for a 29 Fountain to race in 6?
This reminds me of how "A" class was ruined years ago and went from 35 boats to a handfull in two years. How do we measure "running surface"-never saw this in the rules. If the rules were followed, and boats were placed accordingly-we wouldn't be discussing this.

I can race in Class 6 now? Coooooooool:whistle:

Bilgerat 05-08-2013 04:42 PM

It should be measured by dropping a plumb bob off the bow Not including rub rail. and then a plumb bob off the transom at the keel, if a conventional transom. If a notched transom it should be the point at which the transom would meet the bottom at the keel, The transom being defined as where the transom plate or standoff box is mounted. I beleive there are no rules against standoff boxes.

Bilgerat 05-08-2013 04:44 PM

By the way measured a 35 ' Fountain at the shop the other day, not ultra accurate with plumb bobs, but transom to bow eye hook was 29' 4" that is about where the boat does its beak thing. Then take into account the notch, wow, really a short short running surface.

fantastixvoyage 05-08-2013 04:50 PM

Anyone that is protesting this really needs to see one of these P1 boats in action. 26' running surface sounds about right but hell even at 28 with it GROSSLY underpowered compared to OPA boats it should be a class 6 boat.

I don't think anyone here would dream of showing up with 200hp. Let 'em run, in fact welcome him! Its fantastic someone is breaking the mold and willing to run multiple organizations. Seems rare these days.

fantastixvoyage 05-08-2013 04:52 PM

I do have one request of the P1 boats...can you PLEASE swap in some open exaust??!!!! They are painfully quiet :angry-smiley-038:

swung6 05-08-2013 06:14 PM

Welcome to class 6! I'm just glad to have another boat in the class!

Ron P 05-08-2013 10:44 PM

That's the spirit. Lets have some fun this weekend.

SVL-WARLOCK 05-09-2013 07:32 PM

The exhaust is cut.
