Historic St. Clair Inn is closed

After opening its doors 88 years ago, the St. Clair Inn is closed. Glenn Staley, the inn's general manager, said Saturday was the last day in operation. "We had to give up," he said. Staley said the closure was due to a lack of support from the community. "It's a sad thing for this city," he said. The inn went into foreclosure in August. The six-month redemption period ends Feb. 9. The redemption period allows the current owners, St. Clair Inn LLC, a chance to get up-to-date on payments for the property. St. Clair Inn LLC owes more than $95,000 in taxes, $2.1 million to the bank plus about $355 in interest per day since the foreclosure Aug. 8. |
Wow.... That's a bummer

Businesses are closing all over and giant thrift stores are opening. This country is in trouble. :(

Some one will step up to the plate and get it back up and running, It has to be profitable though to spark interest, which i'm sure it could be. I've got my fingers crossed.

St Clair Inn needs new management as old manager is f**ked up!

----I live nearby and that crack about "no community support" is total hogwash!!! Bad food and worse service have driven away any good customers. You cant support a place with inedible food and the Inn cant subsist on racing week alone. Pure and simple. There are a few interested parties, but the renovation costs are slowing things down. The interested parties havent given up yet but there may have to be sizeable concessions from somewhere to get them to jump in. If all goes well I would expect a major change in attitude as well as excellence. Just my take......Bill S
