Defender 21 Scout

Defender Powerboats Inc. has re-introduced the Miami Beach "Thunderboat Row" 1980's classic, 21' Scout; designed by World Powerboat Champion & friend Bob Saccenti. The 21 Scout was originally built by Mr. Saccenti's Apache Perforfance Boat Company in Miami. Throughout time the molds found their way to Georgia where they were acquired by the Defender Powerboat Company and brought back to Florida where they are built today. The new Scout is an all fiberglass / composite boat compared to the wood stringer / transom versions built in the past.

Great hull!

But I do believe that he was one of the few that got permission from G.L.

So is there any pricing on these hulls yet?

Not sure about that but it is a great hull and the Bob Saccenti deck is a classic..... All the Don Aronow design hull copies are also great ... but I think you know that :)
BTW (copied) is with one "p"

There isn't a better running hull for the class! Or under 24 feet for that matter. Best of luck with them.

For the record...Designed by George Linder.....I just watched...We built the later Challengers and Shadows together....Bobby did get a wink and a nod on that one as we all worked closely on some later Shadow Cat projects.....

The Challenger/Shadows were put together with all monocoque/cored construction, but have not been in production for some time....although we are working on something...sad thing is the price point for boats of that size built right has severely dried up the market. Tuff Boat in Canada makes the best variant at present but the sales have been relatively light to date. All the customers in that price range seem to want you to build the boats at cost and eat the delivery charges to boot...Sad, but times change and none of us gets a free pass on that.

Good Luck in any case.

Came out great Phil. Sorry of topic but are you or Bobby going to make it out to the venture cup race?

Mr. Luhrs, Thank you so much for the post and for clearing the air on this sensitive subject also thank you for your contribution to the sport. I'm hoping "Class 7" will jump start the desire to own a smaller performance boat once again so an average working person can enjoy this sport too. So, your working on something new??? Can't wait to see it!

Thanks again,

Philv30

Thank you Peanut, the boys at Porta fiberglass do good work. I can't speak for Bobby but I won't be making the trip to the Venture Cup, I'll be too busy building 21 Scouts...

Might be a silly question but what happens to the points standings since the Lake Hopatcong Grand Prix race was cancelled?
Is there a make up race at the end of the season? Just curious about the sport.

Fast Shafts 05-08-2014 11:46 AM

Phill,
Every boat that showed up is awarded 50 points. Unfortunately, there is no "make-up" race. By the way, six Class 7 (SOB) boats showed up, we may have 9-10 for Atlantic City next month. Would love to see a Defender in the fleet!
Bob

Bob, thanks for info. 50 points sounds very fair and still keeps the playing field competitive. 9-10 Class 7 boats would be a very good showing. Can't wait to see the race on the OPA channel. I would love to see a Defender 21 in the fleet too. With a dedicated race team and a little luck the 21 would be a fierce competitor and might go all the way.... Wish I can race
in the circuit myself but can't at this time.
Phil

I'm running a 200 Opti. I could have gone with a 250hp but for a "DEMO" boat, it will be a fun ride...

When my kids get a little older and want to race in class 7 I'm all in !!!!! Keep the pics coming. Interior pics?

Sounds like a plan Typhoon, I plan on keeping the molds for a long time...
Interior is in the works, looking for someone affordable and as detailed as I am.

Been off OSO for a while but I'm getting back in it again. Been busy working stateside for a change instead of dodging rocket and mortar attacks.
Here's where my boat stands and next week the actual engine and wire rigging begins.

Yes, I know. In the process of finding a new website host. Did you have a question about the boat?

redriderbob 01-23-2015 10:23 AM

Awesome boat, Phil!

No, but I like to keep abreast of things. I downgraded to a small 20ft sportboat years ago and will probably have to replace it within the next 5 yrs or so...I figure. I really have liked owning one of these smaller sportboats.

So...just keeping my eye out on what I'll want next.

Will keep it an I/O and would like, but not have to, have it rigged without motor and probably without outdrive.

Also....I live and work 100yds from a decent size lake and thus have many customers into boats too. So....the more I know, the better.

Keep up the good work.

1st operational check at TNT Marina, Miami. Engine and electronics functioned properly during startup. Can't wait for sea trials. Upholstery & Propeller next on the list.
