The Race is ON! Miami to NY 2004

I’ve been holding this in for a while now so it’s good to be able to spill the beans.

It’s official, the Miami to NY 2004 race is on and scheduled for June 25th through July 2nd. This is not a run through the night event. This will have 6 overnight stops along the way. See the map on the site. The accumulated running time between stops will determine the winner.

This is not hearsay; this is from the horse’s mouth as I’ve been acting as a consultant to this group for the last few months. They are well funded and have hired a professional marketing firm to pull this all together. The people involved are from the Dakar Rally world and this is their first attempt at bringing that type of event to the water.

This won’t be for the feint of heart or pocketbook. The entry fee is 10K, but there is a $200,000 prize purse. $125,000 for first place. No more than 30 boats will race.

This event will be filmed as a documentary or reality TV show to be aired worldwide. International teams are expected to compete as well. He’s the one catch. No refueling between stops. So bring the BIG gas tanks with ya.

If you’re up for the challenge, go to http://www.miami-newyork2004.com/index.html and fill out the online registration form

Is this limited to one overall class?

Ron P 02-03-2004 11:53 PM

One class for all boats.

Brucey, you can do it mang. Just get a big bladder tank and put some superglue on it and your good to go.

BRUCE SEROFF 02-04-2004 09:26 AM

maybe i should just slap a pair of outboards on my boat

packinair 02-04-2004 01:59 PM

throttleup 02-04-2004 06:06 PM

What do you think?

A Jersey Boyz team for this event !!!!!!!!!!!

The Jersey Boyz have more than enough resources and experience to put a winning team together. They could take turns driving.

BRUCE SEROFF 02-04-2004 07:01 PM

Great idea....Tony Ps new 38 Badboyz with the canopy 4 seater and twin gentry turbo diesel and Arneson Drives

Ill put up my share

How's things shaping up?

Ron P 02-20-2004 08:48 AM

Things are going great. We have 4 teams from Europe and another 10 from the states. Looks like it will be a great race.

outer42 02-20-2004 08:53 AM

list them

Ron P 02-20-2004 09:02 AM

Sorry, that's privileged information. We don't want potential teams to be scared off by possible competition.

I think My Father and I might need to consider this one.

Just need to add a little extra fuel capacity to F2-71 and extra set of Drives and hope the water gets nice and BIIGGG.

Here is a picture of my Father arriving in New York in 1978 in a 24' Pantera going straight with no stops in between. Held the record for 10 years.

19h 17m in the 112' Gentry Eagle (11,500hp). It was around 1989. I think the record still stands.

Anyone feel like sopnsoring a 42' Sport Fish?
All it will take is the purchace of a pair of 3000hp MTU's.
We'll be there in no time with the blender churning the whole way!

DJD 02-22-2004 07:43 PM

Hey Ron.
Aside of volenteering as a driver for almost any boat (sorry Sharkey, I like my kidneys right where they are LOL), if you need any check point boats off NY or NJ, let me know.
Depending on when it is going to be, I could be anywhere on the east coast.
I plan on running up from FL in May & back down the first part of October.

Ron P 02-22-2004 09:08 PM

DJD, I might just take you up on that offer. Please PM me with your email address so I can add you to the email list.

Joe how long did it take your father in that boat and did they fuel at sea or did they have stops in harbors along the way. Also how big was his gas tank? I only wish we could try this. I know we wouldnt have a shot of winning with only one class but it would be something to talk about for the rest of your life and be proud of.

JO - PANTERABOATS 02-23-2004 12:36 PM

Proud? Hell yes!!!! It took me 42hrs and change. Remember, no GPS at the time, we had charts and an RDF and two compasses that I forgot to get the swung! We spent the first night aground in North Carolinas Intracoastal waterways, The weather had changed on us, and we made better time inside even thou it is longer. The fuel stops were planned inland, we carried about 300 gallons of fuel, remember the 24 Pantera is a narrow beam boat. That run I will cherish for the rest of my life! Later, Pepe @ pantera boats.

Fast Shafts 02-23-2004 12:59 PM

Pepe,
Were'nt the outboards the first of the 200 horse engines that Mercury produced?
If I'm not mistaken, your record still stands today as the fastest "Outboard" to make this run.

TYPHOON 02-24-2004 02:59 PM

You the man Pepe!!!!
