Pro-Stock 32 Skater 3x 2.5 Mercs

Ryan Beckley 10-16-2004 10:38 PM

Re: Bill Westberry

all of the above and also had a twin outboard 28 Skater he raced a few times as well. Hi Paul.

Re: Bill Westberry

Hi Ryan. I think the 32 became Harmsco Hurricane then Hooters then Penzoil(Nicky Cutro) and is now being converted into a pleasure boat(shame).

Re: Bill Westberry

Correct, what a shame it was a fast race boat.

Re: Bill Westberry

It was a very cool boat rigged by Bill Sirois when it was first built, it was all first class. The neon on the boat trailer was cool. Throttled by Raja Rodgers. I think it is for sale on EBAY now.

Paul Whittier 10-16-2004 10:57 PM

Re: Bill Westberry

I thought Steve Page added all the neon...cool then...

Ryan Beckley 10-16-2004 11:02 PM

Re: Bill Westberry

Yea a guy I know here in sarasota did the Neon. The guy I worked for (Eric DeWitt) when I first moved here shared a shop with Sirois and did all the graphics on the boat.

Thanks for the info. A friend of mine is doing some business with Bill in Texas and I thought getting some racing history might be of interest to him.

Re: Bill Westberry

Hey Ron,
You can tell your friend in Texas that you rode in one of Bill W.'s former race boats....."Spirit Of Houston" #13 was "Kid Apache" #89 and is now Hot Ducks boat!

Fast Shafts 10-17-2004 01:09 PM

Re: Bill Westberry

The former "Harmsco Hurricane", "Pennzoil" boat is now listed on E-bay without power. According to the photos, it has not been converted to a pleasure boat-still a two seat canopied boat.

Re: Bill Westberry

I got to drive that boat as Penzoil with Nicky Cutro in Key West...we beat High Risk for the Worlds. Nicky is really smooth and ran smart...followed Rick most of the race then passed in the harbor with 2 laps to go. Awesome.

The 32' skater is listed on ebay for a min. bid of 40G with no bids.

Re: Bill Westberry

A few years back at the Worlds in KW, Spirt of Houston raced the afternoon race with just one person onboard, seems his crew did not show up, so he went ahead and raced it by himself anyway!!!
I saw this and he was incredible racing that big Apache solo!!!
I think he was a lawyer from the NY area, does anybody know his name?

Paul Whittier 10-17-2004 09:56 PM

Re: Bill Westberry

He had a really rough voice and wore a head-dress all the time...kind of short...Alan something? Had an Apache Cat pleasure boat.

Paul Whittier 10-17-2004 09:59 PM

Re: Bill Westberry

Alan Fiengold from Philly.

georges 10-18-2004 08:32 PM

Re: Bill Westberry

That's it, Alan Feingold, thanks Paul.
You gotta respect that kind of huevos......... wrestling that big Indian all by himself around the course, and he was hauling a-- too!
I have enough trouble with my single engine 24 Pantera!!
I've seen you at many races in your 28 Skater Paul. :D

Re: Bill Westberry

Word has it that he fired his crew just an hour before and just went for a ride by himself, knowing he'd be DQed.

Ryan Beckley 10-18-2004 09:52 PM

Re: Bill Westberry

they had a bad starter which after changed the crew had went to watch the race, I ran the boat back around the Key after the race

Paul Whittier 10-19-2004 01:23 AM

Re: Bill Westberry

The only other person I ever heard of running a race by themselves was...you guest it...BERTEL!

Go Figure

Re: Bill Westberry

Alan fiengold, not sure on the spelling.

They couldnt get the boat started, so they all left to go watch the race, then he got it started and decided to race it by himself.

Famous quote from Westberry, drivers meeting in cape coral at the worlds: I dont know what the big deal is about manatee tastes just like chicken.
