39 Quatro/42 Legacy
It's time to move up and I've been considered a few boats that I feel offer what I am looking for in a offshore boat. One is a 43 Nor-Tech Vee as well as the OL. I've never had a ride on a newer OL so I'm looking for some opinions on ride as compared to other boats that you've owned or have extensive experience with.
I am considering the 39 and/or 42 OL and would also like to get the pros and cons from OL owners and former owners. Any advice would greatly be appreciated, thanks! |

I've ridden the 43 Nor-tech but wanted to get some comparisons down before I take the plunge on either. Thanks!

Hideaway Marina has quite a few 39's listed. I've never been in one but I was in a 43V Friday w/tri 575....big and heavy. I bet the 39 gives you a totally different ride.
|
I would look for a triple 525 42. Reliable, fast, and a great ride. Ocean Perfrmance has one in on trade as well as some 39's listed.

The 39 is a handful to drive. The 42 I think is OL's best standup boat.

Both boats are at the top of their game. Completly different from all aspects, depends what you are looking for. I had an oportunity to ride in a trip 525 42 OL with Mike driving. This boat was the Kevlar layup. Extremely fast, felt very light, flew level every time, but was definatly a more ridgid feeling and not as forgiving as other boats of it's size. This is not a bad thing, this boat was designed to get every last mph out of it as possible, and it delivered in all aspects. The 4300 Nortech is a much larger and heavier boat. It will take more power to run the same speeds and the ride is totally different. I prefer this ride, softer on re-entry, doesnt fly as much, excellent rough water ride, much larger cockpit as well as cabin. I have had a gas 4300 and now have a diesel 4300 similar to the one at the show, but with a lighter layup and few different mods to bring the speed up. Either way you go, you cant loose. Good luck:cool: Jeff |
How often do the Bravos let go on the triple 42 OL and 43 NT ?
Seems like an awfull lotta boat / weight for the bravos to handle ???? |

Just my .02 cents, and don't take this the wrong way because I am a big OL fan. I have noticed that many people who bought the 39 have very quickly traded them back in towards other OL models. I personally know three that were disapointed in the ride quality, the speed was great however, and have seen many others in the classifieds

Joe- nice boat. I like the colors but have something different in mind for my graphics. Did you opt to get a generator? What options do you recommend if you were to do it again?

What the "epoxy" part of it?
I have experience with both the 42 and the 39, both are exceptional boats. I ran with Paul Fiore quite a bit in poker runs. He has an epoxy 42 w/ trip 525's. Run over 100 through whatever you want, and extremely comfortable. The 39 is more of a sporty ride, but it is an exceptional performer. It dependes what you are looking for in a boat, but they are both exceptional. The fact that there are a few popping up for resale is simply based on previous owners moving up to the new 46, as well as a few other new models. Call the dealership and set up a demo, this is a decision that has to be made after a boat ride, I can guarentee you won't be dissapointed. |
100 with trip 525's? If that can be guarantied the 42 might be on my short list of replacement candidates. Ideally I would like to find 100 mph out of 2 engine 40-43' boat where the engines will actually last and not require rebuilds every year with 100+ hours of boating. Anyone know what the best options are for engines in that category?

I don't have a ton of time in either boat but here are some thoughts from my few years around them:
Vinylestyer 42, Vinylester 42, Vinylester 42, all week long and twice on Sunday. I lost what seemed like a done deal on the first 39 Epoxy made at the Miami show a few years ago right after we got back from the demo ride. It was fast, yes, but it rode so hard the guy's wife was holding her chest and looking at me with a look of pain on her face. When we got tied up I asked him "What did you think?" He replied "Do you want the truth?" and it went downhill from there. This one was one of those boats mentioned above that once sold was resold quickly. I probably sound like I'm bashing it, but I really don't mean to. It is a great boat as all the Outerlimits are, just a little more specifically suited for a particular purpose- going fast. The Epoxy keeps the boat light and strong, but there is no flex at all and your body absorbs the bumps. The 42 rides like a dream in any kind of water. It just depends on what you are looking for. Many 39's have been sold to happy customers. If you decide on a 42, we have a 2003 42 available with 1250 Cobras with about 20 hours on them, available with or without the power. Good luck. |
