37 Quad Step #6's In Or Out

02 Quad Step with 1100's Staggered currently spinning in, 17x33 Merc 5 blades, Boat is a hand full over 110, Tabs help a lot but scrub #'s. Any set up info would be appriciated, I think there was only 4 of these boats built, Tech at OL says the boat should run well into the 120's, I aint buying it.

i am running #5's and i went from spinning in to spinning out and i didnt notice any difference. I was trying to solve the same problem once i hit 90mph the boat starts to gallop and i still have plenty of more power i have hit 103mph once but its dangerous. Once you add tab the boat is find but slows the boat way down. swapping the drives did nothing for me.

Have you tried a smaller diameter wheel??

Tazz 09-04-2007 08:24 PM

Have one...boat has enough power to run 120 but can't get it past 110 without a near death experience.... One hell of a boat up to 110 though.

P.S. I've been told that a smaller diameter prop and 1" spacers in the drive should solve the problem, but I don't feel like spending the time and $$ for a "should fix"

Bret at B-Blades feels the smaller wheel and dropping the drives will help also, I'm thinking that would be the first step, OL tells me they can change the angle of the steps and solve the problem as well, And yes it's all fun and games until you get near 110, any info on the 42 hulls? How do they run upstairs? That's what I'm looking at next.

I've heard the some thing on the quad step 37's from a very reliable source. I think the 42's are good up until the upper teens, then after 120 they get loose and slippery. I know for a fact that the 42's are dead stable at 110.

I would be very happy to run 120 in a V with a loaded cabin, looking to sell the boat and don't want to throw another 10K at it to get there, sounds like Diameter and spacer's are the way to go, I'm always willing to give up top end #'s to pull hard.

i also added a one inch spacer and saw no difference, and i also went from a 32x18inch diameter prop to a 32x17.5inch and still no difference just harder to get off plane.

Are you running a Quad or single step hull?
