Water Tight Hatches

1 Attachment(s)
Has anybody had problems with how the cockpit and cabin hatches leak. The hatches have rubber seals but it does no good keeping the water out. I'm talking major leaks like 1/4" day light clearance. I'm surprised such an obvious thing was missed in the construction considering the quality of the rest of the boat is superior.

Any suggestions on where to buy rubber seals?

Is this the same boat that Lake Cumberland has listed for sale.

I'm on my phone and can't tell by the pics, is this the brown 43 from Canada?

Btw, congrats on the new boat, I LOVE those 43's!

This boat is black, white and red not from Canada. Was from South Carolina, now kept in Sarasota.

Very cool boat. Congrats

Ya i have the same boat with the same problem. Real problem when you wash boat. I shaved gasket on tight areas and got a thicker gasket on big gap areas. Also adjust latches. If i have time this winter i am going to make up 3point lock pins that will pull hatch down in all areas. I think the guy from the my way boat had them made up as well. Good luck any other question you can call me.

Now that I'm on a real computer I can see it's not the boat I was thinking of.

Very sharp, congrats on the new ride!

Since they all seem to have this issue, it sounds like they need some attention in the molds.

It is very very hard to have canopy hatches water tight.

43sv 02-04-2012 05:53 PM

N.Y. area. If you have any questions you can call. They are great boats just take you time getting use to. Very fast and you tend to forget it. I lower my drives and did some other things. Nothing major or anything outerlimits did wrong. Have fun be careful.

Beautiful boats. Why not send them back to the factory to be fixed?

Downtown42 02-07-2012 01:41 PM

GK- how do you enter your 1/2 cabin, thru the deck hatch?

43sv 02-07-2012 08:32 PM

The hatches are set up to come off not really a factory issue. It would be very tough to make water and air tight, there are vents that let fresh air into cockpit so the pressure wants to push the lids up on the corners. I have owned other canopied boats and by far these are pretty good.

GK 02-07-2012 09:55 PM

The leaking I'm referring to is extremely bad on both the cockpit and deck hatches (not just a few drops of water). I concur sealing the cockpit hatches is more difficult but not impossible. Regardless, the two deck hatches leak just as bad. I'm replacing the entire rubber seal with a different design. I also have owned Sea Ray, Donzi, Nor-Tech, Scarab and have never had leaking deck hatches to this severity. Kinda of surprised considering the rest of the boat is extremely high quality.

GK 02-07-2012 09:57 PM

Oh DT, to answer your question, you enter the cabin from the hatches on the deck.

43sv 02-08-2012 07:05 AM

Oh i have no deck hatches, they shouldnt leak. Good luck buy a box of towels to put on seats when you wash boat.
