Fuel tanks on SL 44's
 

I am looking at buying a 2010 SL 44 and have been told that the fuel tanks (some) are subject to delamination. The glue is eaten away by ethonol and it causes leaks. Since the fuel tank is built into the hull, anyone know if this issue is real or just myth.

To my knowledge I had the only 44 that was built this way. The rest of the 44's were built just like all of the other OL's and had aluminum tanks. We had thought the tank was failing but when we cut the floor out, it was obvious that the tanks were fine, and the glue was coming from the inspection covers. But, since we had cut it open already, we decided to put a new aluminum tank in it.

Thanks for the information. I was told that the SL44 had a molded fuel tank and was part of the boat. That is why I asked. So with that said, is there anyway to know for sure. I dont want to spend the money to fix the tank if needed, but I certainly dont want a problem with a fuel leak on the boat with myself or passengers.......................

What boat are you looking at? If you look under the back bench seat you will be able to tell if it's an aluminum tank or not....

Formula382 I also was looking at the same boat, but unfortunately it does not have the aluminum tank. Its about thirty grand job to do. Eventually it does fail , hopefully you get to it before it gets into the fuel system and destroy the engine.
