Ron .... you have a Quad Step don't you ???? How "squirrelly" does it get ,if at all, up on top , say 80 to 95 mph ?? I have heard that the single step in that range does not feel , shall we say glued to the water. I'd have to guess the quad would be "lighter" at "poker run" speed, but you should be the one to tell us. Then we might hear from some of the single step guys to compare.

I own a single step 37 side by side bravo, and at any speed it feels good. I have had it up to 114, no problems, runs straight, runs flat, runs fast. I have been told that the 37 Q4 is no longer being produced. I have never driven a 37 Q4, so I do not know for certain, but I keep hearing questions about its stability. I you are considering one, drive it, and then drive it again.

The 37 single step is extremely stable, "glued", and rock solid at speeds in the 80-90's. The boat handles like a knife cutting through the water. For our boat with "juiced" 575's, once it's on plane, you don't have to touch the trim tabs until reaching the high 80's/low 90's to squeak out the last few top end mph. I've never had a white-knuckle experience. The handling is spectacular!
Several years ago, when they were only producing single step 37's, I heard that the quad-step hull's were better fit for the bigger boats.
rbourgoin, what's your take on the quad?

Treadwellmotorsports 03-30-2003 10:39 PM

o limit 37, i agree with you the single step is great. if you guy's are willing to wait untill may 16 ( the marathon race ) i will give you my opinion on the new 37 gtx qaud step. i am hoping it's not squirly.
so remind me in a month and a half and i will let you know.

I have read several different comments on the Quad Step, such as reason why Outerlimits stopped making the Quad Step. (not stable, loose, wobbly and to much money to make hull, can buy a 42' for little more money. The GTX 37 is a Quad Step, why?. Well I'am going with 4th. I've found a large difference between the single step vs the Quad Step. The Quad is completed glued to the water extremely stable, I have never had a white knuckle ride (knock on wood) in flat or rough water ( rough,1' to 3' seas) I've reach a high of 104mph in flat water no tabs and have ran 95mph in alot of boat traffic crud with little tab. With more power I'am hoping to run 118mph in small crud, and 105 to 108 with tab in heavy crud. I found with the single step with side x side Bravos with 800hp unstable, (white knuckle) at speeds at and above 90mph. There must be a huge difference if the single step had #6 drives?. I have found the Performance from the Quad Step impeccable, and not to brag, when crusing at 95 mph we're going by alot of 100mph boats.

Thanks Ron

ron,

if you like the qaud step so much why you asking me why. the 42 is to big for factory class. and my opinion the single stp will be to slow so i went with the qaud step. do you think i will have a problem???????

also take this into consideration. my x dimension will be much lower. so i should have a lot more control.

Ron, As your poker run side kick I can agree that your 4 step is the cats a$$ Cant wait for the new power!

I recently purchased the leftover 02 37'quad step with 675 eickert power and #6 drives, I have been assured by Paul and Mike that this boat is 100% safe and should run 105 mph. joe damiano, njppc member

Was this the boat at Ocean Performance?

rbourgoin 04-01-2003 10:21 AM

0-limit37, are you getting the 37 gtx? if so what's going in for power?

ron

O-Limit37 04-01-2003 12:18 PM

Nope not me. Sticking with the single step '98....the boat is 5 years old and it still looks and feels like new!!! In another thread about a month ago, "AndyOL" did mention that the Miami Boat Show 37GTX with 525's will be on Winnipesaukee this summer.

JoeD 04-01-2003 05:17 PM

Yes O- limits it was at and still is sitting at ocean performance.

JoeD 04-02-2003 06:05 AM

YES it is the brochure boat, It was built for the boat show well over a year ago and with a lot of controversy about the quad step then -some people passed on it, WE looked at a few used 42's that looked great but would be high maintenance for us in the future,Paul ,MIKE and CHRIS all agree on the 105mph as a guarantee but i dont think it would do much more since other quads with bigger power are only doing 5- 10 mph better.

LEOPAJM 04-02-2003 07:09 AM

Joe .... Cogratulations . Neat boat . What 42's did you look @ and what were your impressions of them as far as wear and tear, over-all condition ect...... Also, by "high maintenance" I assume you're referring to "bigger power" ???
