Cattitude ,

Glad to hear your xr is holding up well , keep us posted on the new engine , 790 hp should get you well into the 80's . Last I heard you were running a 5 blade , what pitch , how do you like it versus 4blade . I just dropped off new 540ci. 650 hp at Pantera for my new 28 , looking for prop ideas .
Thanks Morgan

My 25" bone stock P5x runs at top end like my labbed 28 bravo, but has 3 or so more mph at cruise. The 5er always has bite where I can ventilate the 4 blade more planing and in corners. the 5 blade met a ledge along with my lower late in the season. As luck would have it, I found a great deal on a fresh Imco lower with almost all new parts. Went in to the upper at tend of season just to make sure there was no colateral damage.

Full throttle has it and can tune it close to 26", I'll try it and check it out.

Re: Great Deal On Pantera

GoodT, it does seem to be a great deal.
She really needs to take more pictures to get more interest.
Cockpit and engine room pics would be a big help.

Who has it now?

Dude! Sweet! 02-19-2007 02:03 AM

It was on Boattrader. (see my "who knows this boat" thread). I guess it's still for sale a year later? Thanks for the link to this. I appreciate it.

VelocityRick 11-05-2007 03:02 PM

It's back on Boattrader for sale. Down to $29,900

Doesn't seem to add up.

What's the catch?? :readinghelp:

berns29scarab 11-06-2007 08:52 AM

same thing i was thinking

Stormrider 11-06-2007 09:11 AM

Funky Layout!
but could be a good buy for the right person. Just not a standard cockpit/dash, and may never be.
also not sure who rigged this.

The two pics provided don't show the cabin entry. Anyone out there with better pics? I know it's only been asked a few times on this thread. lol

I don't think it has a cabin entry, just like most 28 pantera race set ups.

Here is a pic of Sonic Boom. Most I've seen just have the dash and the floor - no door or fiberglass in between.

Stormrider 11-06-2007 02:11 PM

how can an ad like that generate interest?
there are no pictures.

I think these are photos of the 1993 Sport on BoatTrader. The seller emailed me these back in August. At the time there were some issues w/ the drive but that may be resolved now. The email said the front bolsters were new in July.

If using Albert's aka MIAMIBOYS Mig 28 as a benchmark (race layup with 3-pack bolster, beefed up Bravo, external hyd steering, k-planes, no motor but everything necessary to handle 850hp, dual axle alum trailer, etc etc) which sold for $25k in 9/07 vs this boattrader listing... if in comparison there are no big surprises with this hull, motor & drive, it sounds like a fairly good deal. Whoever is seriously considering this rig should pony up the cash & fly out Ed Cozzi to do a full survey. Not only is Ed a competent high perf surveyor, but he also surveyed the Mig 28 for it's new owner.

berns29scarab 11-07-2007 09:57 AM

just spoke with the seller and the drive is an XZ and it is blown. the seller doesnt know who built the motor and told me point blank ITS AS IS WAS IS...the engine has been winterized so there will be no starting of the motor UNLESS im willing to pay to have it re-winterized if i dont purchase...with an attitude like that it will be for sale for a looooooooong time...and she has the nerve to ask me I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY IT HASNT SOLD...lmfao

Stormrider 11-07-2007 12:19 PM

bern, sounds about right...
i've said it before, that boat needs to go back to the Plant.

Dude! Sweet! 11-07-2007 01:34 PM

That boat already has been for sale for a loooooong time! :D

Jo said it was an old race boat that wasn't rigged by Pantera as I recall. I'd guess that this boat may have all the same issues as many other old race boats (Tomas' boat for example) but those may be hidden under the psudo-pleasure refit.

I don't think this boat and the Mig are a fair comparison. I saw the Mig in person and it was spotless... And she ran the number. This boat doesn't run period!

Doesn't the bigginning of the thread mention who the builder was?

Keytime 11-07-2007 05:49 PM

Ok, everyone... let's reconvene for this same subject in 1.5 years when the boat is listed for $20k. Ready... break!

that'd be after that "not cheap" rebuild of the drive. ;)

joepaws 11-08-2007 09:14 AM

someone looking for a great deal on the 36' blue boat should call jo at pantera. the boat is there also, if anyone want to go look at it. trust me, it's a great deal. u can not find a boat like that with 4 year warranty on the motors and drives. its like buying a new boat at a fraction of the cost. with more warranty than anyone will EVER get. imagine having a 92mph boat and not have to worry about mortors and drives for at least 4 years. NOT AN AFTERMARKET WARRANTY IT'S FROM MERC. DIRECT.

Yah, but once you sink it you'll get all your money back from the insurance company! :cool-smiley-027:

better save your pennies for a rainy day...
one day you may really need to sink one to get your $ out.
dont think the insurance co's like to see that more than once in a lifetime.

C'mon Rob... I know winter is coming, but dude, don't get all "downstater" on me! :D

Saw it in September

I looked at this boat back in September when I was thinking about the Shogren boat. It was dark with a high powered halogen light outside so I can't say it was in sunlight (funny though inspecting at night with a high powered light seems to show flaws more easily).

It's going to need some gelcoat work on the bottom, especially the chine and the vinyl on the rear seat and sunpad is very tired/musty. One strange thing is the race fairing is entirely crazed with small cracks ... really odd like an old fiberglass shelter cover ....lots of little cracks/check marks but not like stress cracks. Instruments show fading as well. Trailer is going to need bearings and tune up work.

Someone has to be prepared to do a makeover but could be a nice boat. The cabin was done well for a race boat conversion but musty. I never went into any of the mechanical items or running gear.

Very nice people when I dealt with them.

No Joe, not at all .... I was referring to the 28 in Maryland. Also in the previous description I meant the keel needed gelcoat work, not the chines. Thanks, Mike
