Hey guys, I finally re-uped my membership.
I agree with storm you should see about 60-61 (GPS)
on a good day with that set-up. I am asuming that
you are running a TRS drive, and also asuming that
the bottom of the boat is still straight, and the engine
isn't too tired. You will probably have to trim it pretty
hard to get that out of it. That is the same set-up I
had in my 79 24' when I bought it. I pulled the motor out
of it the first of last summer and gave it a little update.
I put a new set of forged pistons (right around 9.4:1)
a set of total seal gapless rings, ARP rodbolts, All new
tri-metal race bearings, Did some port work on the 049
heads (blended the bowls,gasket match, & a little de-buring
nothing major.) Put a fairly conservative flat tappet hydrolic
cam & lfters, Springs ect. New roller timing chain, A good
set of 1:8.1 roller rockers. Edelbrock performer 2.0 intake,
with a holley 750. I also put a set of lightning marine headers
on it. The boat ran right at 70 on GPS when I got it togather, And it was a COMPLETLY differant boat in mid-range. I would like to have had the time to do a little more tweaking
because I belive I could have squeezed another MPH or 2 out of it . I was happy with the results for the $ spent. I am not for shure without looking further but I believe I spent around
2k on the motor , and another $1,800 or so on the exhaust.
However I did all of the work myself so that could make a
rather large differance whether or not you had to pay someone to do all of the work or not. I personally wouldn't be too worried about the block only being a 2-bot main if you
were going to do something like I did, Now if you were going to try to make a whole lot of power that is a differant story,
and you may be better off starting over. So It all just depends on what you are wanting to do & what your budget is. If you are like me my imagination is always larger that my budget!!
