Twin 28 power options
Twin 6.2's vs. 496 vs 496HO vs 525EFI's
Price vs. weight vs. speed vs. fuel burn etc. What do you think is best? I'll never be able to afford 525's but they sure do look pretty. The small blocks are lighter and easier to work on, plus cheaper to feed and fix. Do they sound much different than the 496's? The 496HO's are known for stock reliability and have a nice warranty. What speeds do each package run? I like twins because of the extra "push" from twin props, ease of manuvering, reliablity to get home. |
Re: Twin 28 power options
Cut your list to 3, don't bother with the 496 non HO , same weight and 100 less hp.

Re: Twin 28 power options
Hey Zimm ,
496 HO's will put you at low 80's , Dom Zetena has one . 525's are pushing Sonny into the 90's with no trouble . Call Jo about the small blocks , they sold one a few months before I got mine but I don't remember what it would run . I run mid 70's with a single 650 hp under normal boating conditions and have hit the 80 mark a time are two running on fumes . Are you looking at a used one or order up a new one ? The factory just moved , nice place from what I hear . If you want to see Pantera's be at LG Poker Run this weekend , I think there are 5 or 6 in the run and I'm sure you could get a ride in any of them . Morgan |

Zimm 17,
Thank you for your interest on our Pantera Hi - Performance boat line. We delivered recentley a new 28' powered by twin 6.2 MPI 320 HP. Boat will run right at 70 MPH on gps.The speeds Talon 25 posted are correct with the other 2 power options. With a pair of Mercruiser 496-375 you can expect speeds in the 77 - 78 mph depending on passenger and fuel load. The small blocks are a little quiter than the 496 and are more fuel effecient with plenty of room to work on them. If I can answer any other questions for you feel free to email me at [email protected] or I am sure Pantera owners on this site can answer most questions for you. Jo - Pantera Boats |

b29 scarab,
i have a 28 race set up with twin 500's my drives are set up high & mine flies strait |
Re: Twin 28 power options
They still fly straight even with the heavy transom. Tim G had some pictures of his in pretty rough water and it looked like it flew level.
