What do yall think???

Looking at this boat: http://www.offshoreonlyclassifieds.c...o12133-en.html

What do yall think about it? I have a 24' python with an Arneson and a big block. I have been wanting to move up to a 28, would this be a good move? What about the twin setup?

thanks
Brandon

Stormrider 04-03-2007 09:54 AM

i kinda like the twin sbc boat in the swap-n-shop better.

IRONMAN 04-03-2007 02:56 PM

The BBC boat looks more turnkey to me, I think the SBC boat with the its's needs lots of interior work. Python 82 do you have any LH arneson props spare or for sale? Thanks, Chris

Stormrider 04-03-2007 03:09 PM

10k would go along way bringing the sbc up to par.
damn i sound like abroken record.

Python82 04-03-2007 03:26 PM

Don't have any extra props. Why do you like the SBC setup?? I talked with Jo and he seen to think that it was a good buy.

berns29scarab 04-03-2007 04:28 PM

if you want a mint turnkey 28 this is the one !!

I like that boat as well, he just droped the price from $35000. I like the twins set up more than the single. But they seem to have their trade offs. The Single is harder on the outdrive.

The reason I like the twins more than the single is this - It will take a good 500-600hp engine to get a 28 up to 70mph. Most of the singles are anything but stock and I don't think they are as reliable as a stock naturally aspirated (no blower) engine. They are also more expensive to replace than lower hp stock engines. I figured that with a single you would have to replace the engine and maybe the outdrive sooner than a twin and with a high hp engine it would cost around the same if not more to replace. If you had twin stock 502's you would not break the bank if one blew. I figured you could replace 2 stock 502's cheaper than it would be to replace one 500-600 hp.

I wonder how hard it would be to sell my boat?? Man, I love Lake Texoma!

Well hell come on up. We could have the first python regatta LOL.... Or atleast snap off a couple of pics side by side for OSO.

I've got a 24 python for sale here on OSO and I have been getting good hits on it. How much are you thinking of listing it for? Had one serious guy who ended up buying another 1989 python for $11,000 with a warranty on the engine, that was a good deal. Really just depends on what you want for it. Lower the price the faster it will go.

Another thing about the twin engines that I really like on the 28 pantera's is you could add a cheap pair of 6.2's or 350's and keep gas low and still achieve 70mph.

Where do you boat at - Tawakoni? I've got family in Van.

Stormrider 04-04-2007 08:06 AM

twin sbc in a 28 would be better balanced.
you could run a mild sbc and be at 70mph, or get some pumped 450-500hp sbc(which aint even that crazy) and you'll be in the 80s-90.
those drives will last forever behind 500hp. and as long as the engines are good, there wont be any rush to juice them up until you are financially ready.
Ask jo what it would take to clean it up. id be interested in that figure.

also, angel(pantera24) did this to a 28, ask him what it took to get it up to date, and how it ran w/ sbcs... his was also an alpha boat.

Stormrider 04-04-2007 08:11 AM

There is a guy in the apache forum lookng for a 28 for $25k.
He doesn't want to consider a pantera due to:
1. the apache has more historical value (possibly)
2. the apache will hold its value better (i disagree)
you wont find any nice twin or single pantera's for under 30k.

The 2 nicest cheaper 28 on the market are the one bernie almost bought, and griffs.
To me, this one in texas needs a new interior... it just doesn't look pantera.

We live in Crockett, so we boat on Lake Livingston, Palestine, and Conroe. We came up to Texoma several times last year. Like it so much that we are considering moving up there. Im not sure how to price the Python??? I know that I will not get any of my money back.

Give me a hollar when you do come up.

The surrounding area is not very good economically. But there are some reasonably priced lakehouses. I hope to retire up there someday.

Look at boattrader for pricing there are 24 pythons priced from $13,000 to $30,000.

Stormrider - LOL about those comments on the 28 pantera. "I want a wave crusher" LOL..... WTF do you think a 28 pantera is. :evilb: :evilb:

I was told that a 28 Pantera will ride better then a 28 Apache, I cant say if that is true or not Ive never rode in a 28 Apache. But I know how my 28 rides:D :D :D

Congratulations, man that was a steal!!!. Tried to send you a PM, but I guess you are not set up for that. What would it take for me and a cute lady friend to hitch a short ride next time you are at Lake Texoma. My family has a lakehouse up there so I am there just about every weekend. I could pay for gas, beer, lunch, whatever. Give me a hollar next time you go up.
