Location of Fireboy and GPS Receiver

On the 28, where do most of you have your Fireboy Auto Extinguishers?

Also, where did you guys mount your GPS receivers? I was going to make an angle bracket and mount it on the back of the counsel next to the compass.

I put my antena/ reciever on the back side of the helm, right side of the compass.
I taped it there first to make sure is would receive then set it with a dab (small) of 5200

Don't they need to face up?

kirk, which gps do you have.
here was my set up, can't see a 28 being that much diff from a 24SE.
The extinguisher was just under the dash... you can barely see it sticking out behind the key.

Damn that looks familiar. Oh yeah, I remember, I was looking at it last night. :evilb: :D :D

I'm glad i made it nice enough, where no one wants to change it... i must have good taste. :)

I have a GPS Speedo and I need to know where the reciever should go.

Also, it's and Auto Extinguisher in the bilge.

The fireboy on mine (YAHOO!) is on the bulkhead in front of the engine just ahead of the fuel pump. Seems like a good spot to me. I have the discharge on my fire system for the race car right next to the fuel pressure regulator too...

Stormrider 04-19-2007 03:23 PM

ahhh, my bad. sorry.

Elite Marine 04-30-2007 08:58 PM

So where did you guys mount the receiver?

Huh??

Dude! Sweet! 05-01-2007 01:23 AM

My receiver is integrated into my gps. I mounted my gps to the left of the compass pedestal and to the right of the hatch. I can see it well from the seat, I get good reception and the wiring was easy. If I had a remote antenna, I'd probably put it there or on the opposite side of the compass (assuming I got good reception. Photo tomorrow if I remember.

Elite Marine 05-01-2007 07:34 AM

I'm just not sure I'd receive a decent signal with the receiver mounted vertically.

Here's where my gps is. The senders I've seen are all mushroom shaped and designed to be on the roof or deck, so they should be mounted up right.

Could you tape yours on in a potentially appealing spot and then run the boat up the road on the trailer to see if the speedo gets a signal? Or is there a display on the speedo that tells you when you have sufficient signal?

Good luck Kirk, I can't wait to her how she runs and see some video!

That's basicly what I did.

Brrrrrrrrrrr...........That looks colder that Nebraska :D

Griff 05-01-2007 06:49 PM

Kirk, as far as the GPS antenna, I would get rid of the standard compass and mount the GPS antenna there. I would try and mount it flush. You could probably fab a bracket under the dash to hold it and use a bezel/plate on top if needed.

Dude! Sweet! 05-01-2007 08:44 PM

Griff that was colder than Nebraska! 62 degress with 10 - 20 mph wind. The sunny sothern California thing is a myth!

To quote my wife (this morning) "well if you don't like it, YOU can move to Miami, but you have to take the kids!"

Hopefully it will be 70 on Sunday. Oh well, cold air means more power!

And I though you were going to give me the business for drilling holes in your boat!

Griff 05-01-2007 09:41 PM

Its all yours now. Drill away :D

Trust me, I did my fair share of drilling and cutting holes.
