BEWARE! Shady deal on this 28
I cant believe im seeing this again. This Pantera has been for sale forever (with good reason) First off this boat is a 1978 model which the last time it was forsale was listed as a 1983 , now its listed as a 1989. This is the old Boats Unlimited Special boat. I know this boat well a I had a hand in rigging it and resurecting it from the grave (barn accually) where it sat for many years covered in bird crap and dust. Also it lists the motors as fresh well if you consider fresh as in rebuilt with junk parts that sat for as long as the boat. And now the price is about 20k less than it was listed before. This boat has a real shady past which if anyone wants to pm me i will be happy to divuldge. Just be aware of the problems with this boat.

Here it is! |
So the Merolas still have the boat after all, huh!? (I never did call them about it after we talked last year).
Irrespective of all the issues mentioned previously, this was the boat that turned me on to Pantera. It's a shame that it lost it's classic race look along the way. I first saw the boat in 1986 or 1987. It was still numbered up in the Boats Unlimited Livery (before they put the Aqua-mania decals on it). It was one of the baddest looking boats in the Thousand Islands back then. Little did I know it had a time-machine built in, and was actually built two years later! Oh well, I'll give the boat a tip of my cap and be very happy I have the 28 Pantera that I have now! |
are there any pics from when the boat was listed prior? different paint job?
|
Here's a couple of photos from the Pantera web site.

ahhh, yes. i remember it now.
the other one i could think of is the Mercury boat. 3man w/ orange and red paint job... HAS NOTHING TO DO W/ THIS BOAT... just to make it clear... so i dont get bashed. |
Come on now, this isn't the Apache section! We Pantera guys are a happy family. :D

I dont know about this boat but those 28 Pantera with tripple outboards look mean....I wish I could find the old Black Sunday....I have great memories in that boat (Black Sunday)wish I can find it and take it back to Pantera to restore it to original....

Ha, we were talking about the old Boat's Unlimited Special Last night! You always have a special place in your heart for your first love... Just not a place in my garage! :D

I just joined offshoreonly to see if anyone knew about this boat; glad I did. Thanks everyone for the heads-up bout this boat. Thinking about moving up from a Donzi 18 classic as Biscayne Bay is a little rough for my lake boat.

Wen, check out a 24' Pantera. Great step up from an 18 without going too far up, quick little boat and great for running around the Bay and out into the ocean for a blast!

Holy Crap!!! Great Pic!!! |
Thanks Dudesweet and rchevelle, I think you may be right about the Pantera 24. For an occasional zip into the ocean, waterskiing, diving and just tooling around it probably fits the bill. My friends Baja 232 works pretty good in that role around Biscayne Bay, but I wanted just a little more comfort in the ocean.
|
bwen, the 24 would work fine.
BUT... if you can find a 28 in your price range, it'd be worth it. Right DS? If you could swing 30-40k, you can get into a 28. May need a bit-o-work thou. |
I guess I should mention that I have davits that support 6000# so a Pantera 24 would be significantly cheaper if replacing those is factored in..(I guess I'm assuming a Pantera 24 is less that 6000#, anyone know?
|
yes, less than 6000lbs.
|
That old black sunday boat is still in PR. It was sold last year over there. When it was sold it was still in it's original paint. The guy who bought it painted it after he bought it.
