Hi can sombody tell me if this is a Pantera ? It maybe
custumized.

Elite Marine 06-22-2007 08:47 PM

Close but I don't think so. Where the windsheild meets the deck does not look right unless redone. Also they never had windsheilds like that, again unless redone.

Monaco20 06-22-2007 08:50 PM

Any idea wht kind of boat it is?

Dude! Sweet! 06-23-2007 08:54 AM

I agree with Kirk, the windscreen area is curved rather than straight like the 24 Sport or in a V like the 24 SE. From the rub-rail down it looks a lot like a Pantera.

I've learned from all these guys that the Pantera 24 has a lot of sisters and half-sisters! What's the prefix on the HIN?

fobes 06-23-2007 09:08 AM

Not a Pantera, looks more like a 24' Excalibur. I believe they (along with many others) are essentially the same boat from the rubrail down.
Matt

Monaco20 06-23-2007 09:14 AM

Well the owner claims ther are no hin number, the hull is from
the seventies. When diid the factories start with the hin code??

Monaco20 06-23-2007 09:16 AM

The windscreen looks handmade and not very profesional,
try to see the boat with out this poorly made screen.

Elite Marine 06-23-2007 09:45 AM

Magnum, Banana, Excalibur, Superboat and a few others had extremely similar hulls if not the same I believe.

If you can't identify it and want the best...find a true Pantera!!

There are a few good deals out there for real Panteras and you will be happy you purchased one. They are the best rough water boat made - PERIOD!!! The support from Jo, Pepe, Linda and Little Jo is second to none!

Dear Kirk
when I have been looking at the mentioned boats the hulls
look mor og less the same for me. What makes Pantera the best?

Banana boat came from the Cigarette mold and both are 8' beams. All the others you listed are 7' beams.

Monaco20 06-23-2007 08:15 PM

The beam on this boat are 210 cm lenght 750 cm

Dude! Sweet! 06-24-2007 12:37 AM

The US Coast Guard web site should have HIN info (no clue when they started, but my 1980 had one). Its not so much the screen but the deck where the screen is mounted that looks "non-pantera" to me. There was also a decal in the bilge on my old boat just above the transom assembly.

P&D, JAWS and Python are other sisters. There's a lot of them.

The hull shape isn't the distinguishing factor with the Pantera quality. It has to do with the quality of the construction, the materials, the layup and the rigging. Of course there a lot that can change on a vehicle during the 30 years since it left the factory!

Good luck!

Monaco20 06-24-2007 04:12 PM

Dude where can i find pics of P&D, Phyton and Jaws??

What shall I look for when I inspect this boat ??

littledcsrodshop 06-24-2007 04:27 PM

If I was guessing I would say it is a P&D , Excalibur , Monza , or an Early Superboat. Although I think the first Pantera out of the mold may have had a curved front dash area ( I think !!! ) But still not likely it. It is Not a python or banana, & I don't think it is a Magnum or Jaws either. As far as the HIN #'s the problem is most of them where in the gelcoat on the rear transom & if general wear doesn't get them the first coat of paint will.

Monaco20 06-24-2007 04:57 PM

I hav a chance to buy this boat, it seems very difficult to find
out exact wich boat it is . But it must be one of the mentioned
ones. The hin code is not there i do not think they used it
in the seventies. Any tip what i should inspect very carefully
and what kind of of engine i shoul look for for this boat???

Air Dog 06-25-2007 04:24 AM

HIN numbers became mandatory in 1973.

Dude! Sweet! 06-25-2007 01:07 PM

Check for water in the transom and stringers and stress cracks. Email the photo to Pantera and see if they know what it is. Even if it's not a Pantera, if the thing is dry and priced right, you'll still enjoy using it! Good luck!

MIAMIBOYZ 06-25-2007 01:43 PM

Excalibur, P&D or Monza.... Nothing else! All used the same plugs here in Miami.

Monaco20 06-25-2007 02:36 PM

Is this an older Pantera 24 sport???

Its not a python. I'm thinking monza, corsa, martini

Here's a 1992 24 python. They haven't changed much. I don't think these were made until the 80's but I could be wrong.

I posted this before on the classic forum but here are a few more copys from that Dow Aronow design. Back in 1975 I raced this 1974 Cheetah 24', they already had a copy on the West Coast by then. By 1976 here is another West Coast company, Panther Marine that had a copy. Also in the 70's Lancer Marine who later became Awesome powerboats here in Michigan built one. How many copy's are out there ???????

lowblue320 07-06-2007 09:42 AM

My old man purchased a new P&D in 1978 red and white with sensation painted on the side and looked like that with the same windshield and lifeline...

Dude! Sweet! 07-06-2007 10:46 AM

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery... as they say. I do find a great deal of humor in the fact that there was a "Pantera" in Florida and a "Panther" in CA basically building the same boats (shape-wise anyhow).

That little 24' is such a great boat!
