who sits in a stand up bolster?
reguarding my 28.
I wouldn't want to sit in the seat if the bottom was latched shut. It just keeps me too high and doesn't feel right. I've been working on a mock up to allow some support to the glutes and keep me in the "go get'um" position with my feet planted foward. Is anybody else interested in something like this? |
In my 25' Baja Force, I had sit-down bolsters, no drop-out, and they were on a box storage base.
I liked the storage under the seat, but I always ran standing up. Which sucked. I only had the front edge of the seat against the back of my mid thigh. I'm still having a hard time making a decision between sit-down, or drop-out in my 24'. I just can't imagine running in the rough and sitting down. But, at the same time, my old Baja had a lot more freeboard than my Pantera. Not sure how I'm gonna feel hanging it out with the gunwale at my hip - or lower. So, I've helped you none in the answer. |
what about having the drop out at diff angles so you can half way sit while running hard.
|
I used to sit in mine on my 28 all the time. Especially on long cruises. I don't know about your boat, but in mine sitting in the bolsters would get me lower in the boat, and with the flip ups, out of the direct wind.

Mike Mccloud At Mccloud Interiors Made A Seat For My Boat That You Sat Back In With Your Feet Out Front A Little. I Could Half Sit Or Stand With Complete Support From Back To Upper Thighs

I sit only when the wind is getting me too bad (have a windshield). Other than that I am standing. Plus, if I am not flattened out all the way I can't see over the bow far enough ahead, makes me a bit nervous so I stay standing.

OK I've scrapped a couple of designs and I'm going with simple and basic.
I'm taking my seat bases to the powder coater after the new brackets are welded up. I thought I would show a before pic on the stands. Basicly I'm adding a plate for additional adjustments. I will add a wedge shim to the front of the seat pad and split the seat bottom to give it a multi angle.( I'll take pics of that later) |

the issue with dropping the seat and sitting lower will be leg room.
Now how could I solve that??.............................. LET THE MADNESS BEGIN :evilb: |
Yep - that's the tool that will solve any issue.:D
Keep us posted on what you've got as it comes along! |

I'm fixing the leg room issue with angled aluminum foot wells. I hope to have this project complete pretty quick. I'll post some more pics as I clean it up a bit and install the angled foot rests and seat assemblies.
|
Wow!! From here it appears that you will have really good footrest geometery when seated. Good Luck!!
|
Very good idea Tom.
I'm already getting ideas for mine. Never thought of doing that. In my cabin, that space is kinda wasted anyway -except for storage. And I was already considering building bulkhead lockers on each side for a little enclosed storage. With the hole cut, you're now comitted. |

Foot throttle is great belive me!! I put that in my 28 Arrow and its like you and the boat are the 100% the same unit. Amazing! Keep up Mange |
it should work out as an arm rest on the starboard side in the cabin.
|
I modified my seats so the bottoms were 4" lower and it made a huge difference. The seats come up on your back higher and lock you in better and your foot bracing is much more comfortable. I never run standing up.

Tom, that looks like it will work out great! And that photo... that looks like me "installing" the new rear suspension in the Camaro! :D

How about just adding a motor/lift to the drop out bolster that you can stop the drop out at any position? These are factory installed on ATs and a lot of other boats, and it works great for infinite adjustments.

If thoses DC mtrs are anything like the ones I deal with in the fitness industry then they are way over priced. I better save my money for the new foot plates I pulled some pop pins off my shelve and I'm welding them into the seat bottom. I can post a pic of them in the morning |

I'm putting these in the front of the seats. I think it will make it a little easier to opperate.
I hope this isn't one of those projects that "looked good on paper":(:D |
Looks good...any update?
|
yea, the fab guy told me I couldn't afford to do the job:D
All kidding aside it will be a couple more weeks. He's slammed on some race car chassis. |
So what was the out come of the seats?:drink:
|
I finished them and posted pics in another tread (i think) I'll look around
