Just wait until Pepe chimes in on this one...
Yes, and I think it was APBA at the time that was not too pleased about it when they showed up to race. Added a whole new aspect to the safety crews. |

There's an interesting discussion about the first canopy and first sitdown boats in the old school section.

Sacred ground,
Not to pad myself in the butt, but it was me who built the first canopied raceboat back in 1986. It was built on my 28' Pantera. After that, in a couple of years it started getting popular, I had Recaro race car seats, (mounted on shock mounted pedestals) 5 point harness, roll bar, Lexan windshield, oxygen tanks by the seats, etc. To make a long story short, it was debuted in the Apache race here in Miami, (fall of 1987) APBA officials after much thinking, decided that they needed more thinking and therefore would not let me race that day, even after they made me take the Lexan w/s off the night before the race. That is the way it went over 20 years ago. As Paul Harvey would say: Now you know the rest of the story! Later, Pp @ Pantera. |
Pepe/Jo,
How many 28' race boats were there with the 3-man bolster configuration like the "Stressed Out" boats? Thanks, Dan |
